iphone 4S won't play audio in my car stereo's USB now on ios 6

So, I just updated my 4S to iOS6. I wanted to try the new maps turn-by-turn. They actually worked pretty well... unfortunatley when I plugged my phone into my cars USB cable (which worked the day before via iOS5) I couldn't hear the audio directions. I turned on my Audible app to see if a book would play, no audio, though the play counter was counting so it was playing. I then tried iPod, playing, but no audio. I rebooted the phone and tried again, same thing.

I thought my cable wasn't working because of the update didn't like the fact that it was an old cable. Tried a new cable, still no worky. I have a seriously long commute, I NEED my audible to get through it. Aside from unplugging the **** thing and listening to it through the tiny, crappy iPhone speakers while I drive I think it's acceptable to expect to use my iPhone's USB cable through my car strereo like I did before I updated... please help!!!!!

Eugene I think everyone can relate to having some sort of music other than "cloud" music loaded onto their devices. I myself have about 10G of music loaded. The error I get on all of my cars, and the same for customes who have factory Mercedes and BMW car audio systems especially is "no song" or "no audio".

I even called Crutchfield because I have some strong connects with a few of their peers: Answer - "We have been getting blasted ever since the iOS6 came out, we have never experienced call volumes of this magnitude before"

You know s!@# has hit the ceiling fan when they say something like that!

Yea, they definitely dropped the ball on this one.

Well, in case it helps anyone fix their phone, this is the sequence of events that I went through to *somehow* get mine to work:

1. My phone had no music loaded on it other than the cloud music services.

2. After iOS6 it did not work in my Accord - same as everyone else reported, I get the "no song" message.

3. I did a full restore while connected to my computer with USB.

4. That did not fix the problem - was the same issue as before.

5. I did an "all settings reset" - that did not fix the problem either.

6. I transferred a couple of MP3's and a playlist from my computer to my iPhone.

7. It suddenly started to work.

A couple of things to note, though: The cloud services "kinda work" - I don't get the correct meta-data displaying in the car, and if I try to use the car's skip-ahead/skip-back buttons, it shuts off the music from the cloud source and starts playing a loaded mp3.

You sir deserve a thank you. so THANKS!!!

put a few mp3's on my device and everything is working now. Going to email Todd and let him know. In my case I had NO local Audio on my device, so I was only using Spotify and Pandora for music. Put a few MP3's on and boom Im back in business, get track name artist and my steering wheel controls still work as well.

Thanks again dude:)

I would like to note that everything works, but navigation in the music apps and stability are not quite there yet. Someimtes the track metadata thats playing takes 20 seconds or so to appear and the track will not fastforward from my steering wheel controlls or the stereo its self until this happens. Something is better than nothign though. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

So I have my devcie synced via iCloud so I wasn't able to manually add songs via iTunes. Or at least I couldn't figure out how. So instead I added some podcasts and voila it works via my USB cable now. Really stupid that this is what you need to do, especially since my audible books are downloaded to my device, via the Audible app, but still!

Thanks for figuring this out Eugene!

I was having the same problem in our Honda Pilot and my Subaru with an alpine deck. Both USB. After reading this, it now sort or makes sense. We've had this problem ever since iTunes Match. So I say this is an iTunes Match/iCloud problem. Anything that is not staged local on your device won't play. For some reason, iOS 6 decided to unstage every audio file, so notihng plays. I still think this is an IOS problem though. It's like audio decks can't initiate the network access to play a song. Only the apple music app can do that. Apple needs to fix that for whatever API 3rd party decks use to play audio work like the music app.

Thanks again for the help EugeneA!

Hi,

I have 2012 VW Jetta wirth RNS 510 and I connect my iPhone by the VW cable, but no song info is transferred anymore to the RNS 510 and my dashborad display. I only have audio, but no info and control.

Apple is loosing it's touch since Steve went away.......

I never expected to be a frustrated Apple user.

The transferring of some song in iTunes did not help.

I don't understand how adding a song from computer to iPhone can work??

I turned off iTunes Match and added an album (you can't add any songs to the phone without doing this) but when I turned iTunes Match back on it deleted the album!

I went back to my BMW and it says that there are no songs or albums on the phone - it can read the playlists but there is nothing in them!!!

I am still on the iPhone 4 but I have iOS6 and I was thinking about getting the 5, BUT it looks like I will have to get the 64GB and switch of iTunes Match as it is so crap!!

Having spoken to Techys at Apple - apparently Apple DO NOT CONSIDER YOUR ITUNES LIBRARY IN THE CLOUD AS YOUR PROPERTY!!!!!!

Therefor they are not authorising the music to be streamed in cars!!!!!! Can you F***ING believe it!!

No more iTunes Match then, No more iCloud and possible no more APPLE!!!

Steve Jobs will be turning in his grave.
