iphone 4S won't play audio in my car stereo's USB now on ios 6

So, I just updated my 4S to iOS6. I wanted to try the new maps turn-by-turn. They actually worked pretty well... unfortunatley when I plugged my phone into my cars USB cable (which worked the day before via iOS5) I couldn't hear the audio directions. I turned on my Audible app to see if a book would play, no audio, though the play counter was counting so it was playing. I then tried iPod, playing, but no audio. I rebooted the phone and tried again, same thing.

I thought my cable wasn't working because of the update didn't like the fact that it was an old cable. Tried a new cable, still no worky. I have a seriously long commute, I NEED my audible to get through it. Aside from unplugging the **** thing and listening to it through the tiny, crappy iPhone speakers while I drive I think it's acceptable to expect to use my iPhone's USB cable through my car strereo like I did before I updated... please help!!!!!

SO.... After several days of figuring out the issues, I found the ULTIMATE answer. Ok here's the fun stuff. As a business owner of a custom integrations company I always say, "when dealing with custom electronics, you sometimes get burned"

1. Verify your OSX version. Mine was 10.5.

2. Download Snow Leopard($125) or if you can find a way to get if free??<>?!

3. Then update to the latest 10.6.8

4. Now, you can download the Itunes version 10.7, which you cannot download until the Snow Leopard 10.6.8 is done.

5. Connect you phone, add a song, purchase it or add it

6. Sync

7. Voila! Now you will be set up for the future Apple stuff coming down the pipes. If you wish to take it a step further(recommended) Download Mountain Lion OSX and you will be completely prepared for any phone upgrades to the i5 and the next phone they decide to release.

Good Luck to all, its a process for sure, but a well needed one.

Same issue here with a 2010 VW GTI using the standard VW iPhone/iPod dock cable to connect my iPhone 4. Upon connecting, the very first song (alphabetically) automatically starts playing. No song data - Artist, title, played/remaining time - no longer appear on the stereo display. Opening the Music app on the iPhone now only presents a white screen with a line drawing of an iPod with the text "Connected Device". Previously, it would show the cover art of the song.

With iOS 5, all data was present. In addition, if I shut off the stereo with the iPhone connected and playing, and then turned the stereo back on - the playback would resume where it left off. Not any longer. Regardless of which song was playing, the very first song alphabetically is what will start playing.

How did you get spotify to work through USB? I uploaded a song per the recommendation. I then go to my car, turn on spotify, plug in the lighting cord/USB to the car, set to USB on the car radio and press play on Spotify. It plays for 3-5 seconds then goes to playing music in the native iPhose music app. So frustrating! Any help is much appreciated. All I want to do is play Spotify like I always have through my cars stereo and not though bluetooth. Ideally USB so charging can happen simultaneously. I have an iPhone 5,Macbook Pro running lion and my car is a 2012 jeep grand cherokee.

I am having the same problem. It seem to have started after all these upgrades. I used to own an iPhone 4S with iOS 5, and played it on my car stereo without any problems. Now, that I upgraded to an iPhone 5 with iOS 6, I can't get it to play on my car stereo. I also own an iPod Classic, and this device plays on my car stereo without any issues. I am very frustrated not to be able to play my songs on my vehicle on this iPhone 5 device. I thought my problem was isolated, but after reading the posts after October 2012 on this thread; now I know this is a problem with the new iOS 6 and not my car's stereo. I just hope they release a fix, when they release a fix to their map patch to fix all of these software bugs for premature, and untested software release to the public.

The only way round I have found so far is to download the album or playlist manually on the iPhone and then store is locally on the device, it will then be recognised in the car and pay as usual - but this kind of defeats the object of iTunes Match!! I have an appointment on Monday with the Genius Bar and I will update this thread when I have been.

The solution to this problem might be a lot easier and yet more frustrating that you think. If you are having this proplem of your music not playing intermittantly read on, and it's probably not IOS6 based. I have had this mysterious problem since July. First I though I had gotten sweat into my iphone 😕 😊 I tried to be more careful when working out or around moisture. The problem would often fix itself when I would plug in and un plug my earbuds or aux cable... finally, tonight I googled it and this article was the very first that popped up: my iphone won't play sound sometimes ( <-----click blue words 😉 )

I hope this helps someone

GUARANTEED SOLUTION READ!!!!

Okay so I had the same exact issue on my 2012 Honda Accord. I took my car to the dealer and some iPhones worked while others didnt so they said they can't do anything. I thought the stereo system may have needed a firmware update to be compatible with my new ios but it was not even related to that. My front door neighbor has the same exact vehicle. I just spoke to him and he advised me that to fix the issue all I had to do was SIMPLY PURCHASE A SONG ON iTunes....YEA LIKE THAT WILL WORK? Well thats what I said, but that $1.29 song I bought MADE IT WORK! I was surprised as **** to find out that would solve the problem.

Solution Summary:

Purchase a song on your iTunes. If you had done so in the prior ios DO IT AGAIN! I had never bought anything on iTunes and this was my first purchase. I GUARANTEE YOU it'll work....well at least in the Honda Accord it does. I had to call my Honda service rep and let him know so in the future if someone brings their car in for same problem they know how to advise them.

HOPE THIS HELPED A LOT OF YOU FROM A LOT OF FRUSTRATION 🙂

I just purchased iTunes Match a month or so ago.

It does come in handy, as ALL of my music is at my disposal.

The one main thing I do not like it how my kenwood tv dock, in my car, wont read the songs from the iPhone.

Meaning that when I had my songs stored locally on a 3gs, 4, 4s etc - all of my music would display on the car tv screen, thus I would plug in the Apple device and never have to turn the screen on. All my music, controls, album skipping, different tracks were all done via the kenwood car tv.

With iTunes match ON - I have to control all my music thru my Apple prodoct.

Meaning that now on a 3gs, 4, 4s - with iTunes Match ON nothing gets transferred to my car tv. I can NOT control song skipping, album skipping, etc.

I have to physically pick up my Apple product, turn on the screen, find that Im looking for & then it plays.

God forbid I want to change a song, I cant do that thru the car tv anymore with 1 simple push of a button.

Again - I have to pick up the Apple product and change it that way.

A royal pain in the you know what.

For that reason alone, I dont know if Ill renew iTunes Match.

It IS NICE to have my music anywhere, but driving and looking at my phone isnt something I envisioned when I changed from storing my lusic locally, as opposed to in the cloud with iTunes Match.

Simple solution would be to ALLOW all my music stored via iTunes Match, with my iPhone plugged into my car iPhone dock connector, to show up on my car tv / iPod interface like it is stored on the iPhone's hard drive. Just like how it works when I have my music stored directly on my iPhone.

iphone 4S won't play audio in my car stereo's USB now on ios 6
