Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I have updated my iPad 2 & my iPhone 4s to IOS 6. My mac is running OSX 10.8.2 and iphoto 9.4 Now I cannot synch my IOS devices to my Mac unless I deselect synchronisation of photos. The error reported is "Unknown error 1140". Do I need to restore my IOS devices? I am guessing that this is a problem relating to the iphoto update which rebuilt the photo library. Suggestions as to how I solve this problem would be welcome.
Hi, this solved it for me too. I have OS X 10.8.2 on my iMac 24", iPad 2 and iPhone 4
- all with the latest updates. I had 4 slideshows in iPhoto (not important ones)
- deleted them all and was once again able to sync my photo albums on my
devices in iTunes.

Delete the slideshow from iPhoto 9.4 (701.64) solved the problems; So odd, I now have to create new set of slide shows ><
At least the 4S can now sync!!

This worked for me... I simply just stopped sycing the photos folders that I wanted on my iPhone, and when it asked me if I wanted to remove them or keep them on my phone, I selected "keep on my phone". This fixed the issue for me that was only happening on my iPhone 5. This issue was not happening on my iPad 2 with ios 5.1.1.
so the albums are no longer syncing, but I have those pictures in my iphone.
I got the same error after migrating from my Mac Book Pro to my new iMac. It's a bug with the iPhoto sync process. When I open iPhoto and sync with my iPhone 4G before trying to sync with iTunes, everything works fine and no more error message. All of my software is up to date. I have 8,000 + photos and a few slideshows, but have not needed to delete anything from iPhoto to sync successfully. I think the bug is in the "automatically open iPhoto" command. If iTunes doesn't get the equivalent of an "all clear" message from iPhoto, then it will fail to sync and you get the 1140 error message when it times out. So the solution is to go to iPhoto first.
In my previous version of the IOS, iPhoto would automatically open when I connected my iPhone to the computer, but it no longer does that. That's why I suspect a bug. I think iTunes is waiting on an "all clear" message that doesn't get posted from iPhoto until you've synced with iPhoto.

I would try updating your system to 10.8.4 via the OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo) updater and iPhoto to the latest, 9.4.3 via the App Store and try again. The post linked to just mentioned iPhoto 9.4 so there have been a couple of updates since then.
