other taking up space after ios 6

after downloading ios 6 both my iphone and ipad have "other" over 850mb of other in its memory summary, is that normal and how can i lower it?

iOS 5.1.1

I have updated my iPhone 5 16GB since iOS 5 or 6 and I have a problem it's designed to be 16GB but due to the software it's gone down to 13.5GB is there anyway I can lessen this or when iOS 7 comes out hopefully will take up less memory

Sorry but that is what the software takes up. Everybody's phone takes up 2-3 gb, but consider yourself lucky other phones " sg4 " software takes up 8gb!!

Haha I suppose your right but to be honest apple should say the phone is 16GB but really it's 20Gb or something so that when updates occur the memory you've payed for is still all there
