GB ver 1.3 on iPad 3 piano (not smart piano) and drum kit have very low volume. Even with the volume cranked.

Something changed in the latest io6 update. This wasn't a problem previously.

iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6

I've noticed the exact same thing... 3rd gen iPad after ios6 update. Hoping for a fix soon. I think its the velocity sensitivity as sometimes while playing piano since the update I'll have a rogue note that will be crazy loud, and everything else is still quiet.

It did help. In the piano settings I pushed the velocity setting all the way to the top and got much more volume.

In the drum settings I turned off the velocity and had a similar result.

Now it's up to GarageBand to provide the actual fix but this work around helps a lot.

Funny, I have the same problem.

I found that by taking my protective case off the ipod3 there was a more consistent response but it still doesn't give the volume it used to and there is an occasional jump in volume that is noticeable in the vol meter.

Is anyone still having this problem? I can't enjoy my piano with these problems. Even the latest update doesn't fixed this yet

The problem does still exist but if you follow alondono's work around you should get a much better experience with the piano and the drums.

I think that's the best we can do until garageband fixes this issue.

I am discovering this acceleration problem exists in more apps than just GB.

Games and other velocity sensitive apps are not responding as they used to before the iOS 6 update.

Now this is a real issue that needs to be addressed and in doing so, may resolve the GB issue if they can correct the touch screen loop programming.

I'm not in favor of workarounds, they don't address the issue correctly, and this problem is becoming a real nuisance.

This issue should be high on the programmers to do list.

I will submit a suggestion.

I agree. I am seeing a number of apps that just don't respond when tapping on the surface of my ipad 3.

A previous commentor mentioned that since this is a user to user community we should make sure to give feedback to Apple by using the following link:
