I had the same problem, went to return but they could get wifi right away. i came back home and nothing. then i tried a network reset and i got onto my wifi! its fine now...go figure. give it a try and see if it works. good luck everyone.
On my 3Gs I would get full wifi at home and work. On my 5 I now get 1 bar of wifi at home and work. Even when my phone is TOUCHING the router.
I had the same issue but fixed it by -- click on the network and the blue arrow I was trying to connect to -- then click on forget this network and then try again - -that worked for me ---
The tip here to reset my network settings worked great. Go to Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings. Now I have full Wifi signal bars and blazing fast download speeds using both Apple Airport Extreme and Apple Airport Express (Relay). Shouldn't have to do this in the first place, but at least it's fixable.
Before I read this solution, I had the same problem and even after resetting to factory seting ans restore the backup it didn't work for days. Then desperately I just clicked on the 'forget this network' and then typed the network in manually... and it worked! Confirms it is not a hardware problem as I read all over on the discussion (iPhone5 IOS6).
BUTWhat really makes me angry just more is that Apple has this discussion fora on there 'support' site but there is NEVER a single sign of Apple for a possible solution. Everybody is chatting and guessing on the official Apple site and there is NO support at all. Apple we all pay your salaries: do something!!! ever hear of customer care!!!!😠
Brand new iPhone 5 can connect to several Wifi networks but not at home, even with an open network and phone inches from router. Message is "Cannot connect ...". Oddly, it connects to the neighbor's open network. I tried turning wifi off/on, ask to join, ... but nothing. Hesitate to reset network settings since I have entered a bunch of passwords to other networks.
I had the same problem with my iphone 4 when trying to connect to my home wifi. Finally, I went into my modem's setting via Centurylink and changed the wifi channel to 11 and viola! Re-entered my security key on my phone and success! Hope this helps!
Update: I reset the iPhone 5's Network Settings but it didn't help. I talked to Apple support and they said that the Wifi chip on the 5 is different than before and some routers may have problems. The Netgear WGT624v3 is one of them. http://www.davejackson.com/life/cant-access-wifi-with-ios-6-on-iphone-with-netge ar-wgt624v3-fix/ posted that downgrading the firmware allowed the phone to connect. I didn't try it but am using a 2nd generation Airport Extreme successfully.
Thank you - this was the only thing that worked - strange that I bought 2 i5s today - one connected to home wifi no problem, second - brought me to this list! Glad I found your post ...

I know very little about tech things. My new Iphone5 would connect to wifi at work but not at home.
The simple reason was the antivirus on home computer. I took off the antivirus, connected up to wifi and then put it back on again. Phone working very fast now on home wifi.
Thanks. Worked for me.
It worked for me too betsyfromatlanta! Thanks! And it sounded so simple. I tried it first.
Switched router off for a minute and back on again, connected iphone no bother, hope this helps🙂
Same problem. I reset the modem but also had to do what betsyfromatlanta suggested and, bingo, problem fixed.
This worked perfect for me! Thanks
