I thought I had fixed this but I hadn't. Apple have told me that the problem with no sound on my IPad3 is a known software fault with IOS 6 and can't be fixed until Apple release a software fix. He didn't know when this was going to be. I haven't got this problem on my ancient iPhone 3gs and instead of buying a new iPhone 5 I will be now getting a Samsung!

It appears that the sound control for notifications (email messages, texts, etc.) is no longer 'attached' to the same sound control as the ringer (for phone calls). Instead, notifications are 'attached' to the sound control for iTunes. So, on my phone at least, I have to use the iTunes volume to control the level for music and notifications and the volume controls on the side of the phone only adjust the ringer for phone calls.

I'm having the same problem I have an iPhone 4S and as soon as I updated to Ios6 my phones speaker have stopped working. It's not that I ruined them because when I get a call they work perfectly fine but as soon as I try to play music they won't work nor will they sound when I receive a text it's pretty aggravating. My phone also says its connected to a dock. I do not own a dock. I wish I can downgrade to my previous iOS -.- but this speaker problem only happens sometimes

Same problem.

Updated my iPhone 4S to iOS6 on 19 sept.

On 25th first problem with sound, but only for few hours, than back to normal.

Yesterday again but for good.

Works only ringtone, timer, SIRI and sometimes unlock sound.

No sound on music, videos, apps, txt messages, keybord cliks etc. The volume buttons are blank, show only speaker with no bars like just to do.

I had set up Apple Support phone appointment.

They called me 12.15PM and asked to restore my iPhone to factory settings.

Didn't worked.

Then called me again 6.15PM and asked to do back up and restore via iTunes.

Didn't worked.

Set up another call for tomorrow 12.30PM.

Let see what they gone to say this time:/

Reading these replies makes me conclude that the sound problems are idiosyncratic. I had none of the speaker problems, but - aside from some difficuty syncing gmail on my devices - I have only one problem: the "alert" sound for new mail cannot be turned off or changed. I have done everything to try to select something else - and no other sounds seem to have the same issue - just New Mail. It's driving me nuts because it's the same sound I use for calendar reminders, and I keep thinking I'm missing something.

I found the solution!

The error was caused by a confusion in the iOS software. My iPhone 4 had no sound from the speaker, so no YouTube or music. When I tried to select what source I would like to play on, I could choose between my Apple TV via Airport or "Dockstick". No iPhone!

I tried to reset the iPhone. No luck.

I restored it. No luck.

Then it hit me, and I plugged my iPhone into the USB charger that came with the iPhone. I also have a 30-pin connector cable in my iMac which I use to sync my iPad 2 and iPhone once in a while (security backups). My devices are set to normal iCloud backup.

After connecting my iPhone to the wall charger I left it there and then tried to play a video from the web - while sending the sound to my Apple TV. Then I double tapped the home button and switched source - and now the iPhone was back! No more dockstick !!!

So, to fix this, simply grab your iPhone and connect it to your USB/wall charger and play something. Hopefully the software then realises that there is NO dock connected and lets you use the internal iPhone speakers again.

Soren

I thought I was going crazy! After the update, I've had the same issues. The volume is very low and I've had trouble hearing callers. When I plug the phone into my fm transmitter, I have to turn the car volume to 40! to listen to an audiobook. Occassionally when I press the +volume, it turns the sound off. I've had other issues (Siri) that didn't seem to pop up until after a few days. Super disappointed. I hope there is a fix soon. This is turning into a pain in the ***. One of the things I loved about my phone was hassle free use. Now...
