Converting vinyl to iTunes using EZ Converter

Hi

I am using EZ Vinyl Converter, downloaded as the latest one two weeks ago, and am using Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and iTunes 10.6.3. I have successfully converted several LPs to iTunes in an easy way. Yesterday this stopped. After transferring I press "next" to import to iTunes. The file is shown as importing on the EZ software. It appears very briefly in the iTunes recently added section and then disappears. I cannot find the tracks anywhere in iTune. Where will I find the imported files? Any ideas much appreciated

Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I have a recently added playlist in iTunes and the tracks go into it while importing then disappear once imported.

Where are they now?

I have no idea.

Well - that's not quite true. If iTunes is listing a song in the Recently Added Playlist, then it is recently added to iTunes and therefore in the iTunes Library. So why it should suddenly drop it from the recently added, I don't know. (Just as a double check, have a look at the rules for your Recently Added Playlist. I believe the default is 2 weeks, and there is probably also a rule stating "exclude Podcasts" from the list.)

iTunes is simply a datatbase of the songs in your Library. The song files are located on your PC, sorry, Mac - but not "inside" iTunes. Songs that iTunes imports, or controls the importation of, are usually located in specific folders within the iTunes Media folder:

E.G. (on Windows 7, that would be C:\ Music\...) ...\iTunes\iTunes Music\<artist name>\<album title>\<song title> or for a compilation album, ..\iTunes\iTunes Music\Compilations\<album title>\<filename> . The filename could begin with the artist, the song title or possibly the track number. Apart from the bit specific to Windows, the filepaths should be the same on a Mac.

It's a bit difficult to work out exactly where EZ vinyl Convertor puts the files (not being an EZ Vinyl user myself), because they simply say look in the Recently Added Playlist. Frankly, that's not a very good answer! But they should show up in the main Music Library.

So, does (or do any of) the song(s) show up in the Music Library, at any time, even after disappearing from the Recently Added Playlist? If so, highlight it and click on File/Get Info/Summary>Where: and note the file location it provides. What happens?

Could there be another programme on your Mac that is changing the file names, moving the files or even deleting them?

In desperation (almost) I can only suggest the following:

  1. if the song appears, even for a short time, in the Recently Added Playlist, can you highlight it and then select File/Get Ino/Summary>Where: to find out which folder it's been put in? Then check the folder to see if you can work out when and why it is disappearing.
  2. look for a forum for the EZ Vinyl Convertor software (I had a quick look but didn't find anything of real use),
  3. contact ION (makers of EZ Vinyl) or
  4. simply abandon EZ and use something else, such as Audacity.

I have to say that I didn't find the ION site very inspiring. Their list of tips for instance; tip number one is "Download EZ Vinyl software".

Tip number three is "get started".

I'm at a loss for the best way to sum up my response to their tips!

Sorry I can't be of more help.

A good idea is to move the files to the media folder where the rest of your Library is located. Keeping everything in one master folder helps when transferring the complete Library to a new computer. Follow the file path structure I mentioned previously, so that you can easily locate the individual tracks at a later time.

Once you have the files in their permanent location, simply drag them into your iTunes Music Library. The file stays where you put it, but iTunes will add it to its database.

Alternatively, you can use - in iTunes;

  1. for an individual song, File/Add File to Library and navigate to the folder, or
  2. for several songs in the same folder, File/Add Folder to Library.

Very helpful suggestion(s)

The missing tracks have now all appeared in both the Recently Added folder and the main Library. Maybe its the OS X version or something to do with the setup whereby I have music held on an external drive which iTunes pulls from.

I don't know - I like using the Mac systems but do not really know what to do when something fails.

Now .....next thing.......the iTunes Match option has disappeared from the left hand margin where those things are listed! I can still operate it via the toolbars...

Many thanks

As I expect. The default time for the Recently Added Playlist is either two weeks, or ten days, after which time the songs will continue to be listed in the Main Library but will be removed from the Recently Added Playlist.

I know nothing at all about iTunes Match, I'm afraid. If no one else chips in to this thread after a day, I suggest you create a new thread about Match. Someone in the community will be able to help out with it. It simply isn't me, sorry.
