I had this problem today and couldn't work it out. Then I realised - on the first Summary screen for my iPhone in the Options box I had ticked the "Synch only ticked songs and videos" option. Foolishly I assumed this meant I would only synch songs and videos that I had ticked in the Music and Video tabs, but this is not the case!

As soon as I UNTICKED this box all of my music appeared back on my iphone (the blue bar at the bottom apeared again). Then I clicked on Synch and itunes copied all of my selected music back over to my iphone.

Apple really need to work on making their software foolproof, for fools like me!

Ronw,

Check in contacts list if you have the option "Groups". If yes, open it and select a group to check if you have the contacts back.

I think you have tried to sync contatcs with iCloud as well. Then it maybe delete your currently contacts. When you sync your device with your pc you must select sync contacts with outlook, in iTunes>>"your device name">>Information.

This worked 4 me (TXS to keyofgmac)

Use Sync x wire: Plug iPhone into computer

Open iTunes

On L panel select Device -> your device

Then, On Top panel select Photos

In my case Sync Photos was NOT ck'd

I Ck'd Sync Photos

Sync started right up.

To test, I unplugged iPhone then plugged it in again

Sync started right up on it own (as it should)

Done

I am having the same issues. I am an apple girl, but I have never been more frustrated than I am at this moment. I have had my iPhone 4 since it came out a few years ago, yet I cannot get my iPhone to sync or work properly, it continuously reverts to factory settings, I keep losing my info, not to mention time trying to get my phone to work. I love my apple computer, phone, iPad adn everything else I own..... BUT I AM SOOOOOO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!

Had the same problem with my iphone 5 and ipad 3. Suddenly my computer wouldn't recognize my units. It would charge, but that was all. However, i managed to solve it by doing the following.

Restart the computer and boot it from an USB stick with an OS on.

Try plug the phone in when it's done.

Restart the computer normally.

Viola!

- Don't know why it worked, but it seems by booting from another OS it repairs some either missing or broken files.

I've tried everything else there is and this was the only thing that worked. Don't know if it will work for you guys, but it did for me. Works like a charm now and everything is back to normal.

Good luck!
