How do i connect to an existing caldav calendar in iOS 6?

After updating to iOS 6, one of my caldav accounts was lost, now I can't add it again.

When I add a new caldav account in iOS 6, it creates a new calendar folder 'in' the existing one, instead of using the existing folder.

Adding to the problem is that my iPhone and my iPad create their own folders, and don't see the ones created by the other, so there is no way to sync them.

(I us a caldav server on my Synology Disk Station)

We run DAViCal at our organization. When I set up my phone (a while ago, iOS5), it worked. It connected to the DAViCal server and got all my calendars. Now that I'm on iOS6, it still works. Settings were maintained in the upgrade.

I have a user who came to me with an iOS6 phone. Following the same steps and settings, iCal on the iPhone does not "see" the existing calanders for her. It instead creates a new calendar on the server.

How do I force it to use the existing calendar?

iCal is broken. Users expected to get their existing calendars when they connect to on iCal server.
