time machine slow in 10.7.5
Since updating to 10.7.5 using the Combo updater, Time Machine on my iMac seems much slower. Anyone else seeing this behavior?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5), iMac 21.5 in.; i5; iPad 32Gb iOS 5.

Be sure indexing of your system is complete; that can slow backups to a crawl (in both the preparing and copying phases).
If it is, see #D2 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting, especially the yellow and green boxes.

I really wish theywouldn't do that; either change the date, or leave it alone (as they did with the last update to Snow Leopard). After a while, there's no problem, but all the servers don't necessarily get updated at the same time, so some folks may get different results.
Hmm, I didn't know about the possibility of varying servers. So, as a public service, the original 10.7.5 combo updater weighed in at 2,049,737,152 bytes while the one I downloaded and tested today comes in at 2,049,745,415 bytes. I guess it is useful to archive.

OK. Spotlight has been finished. Thank you for the link. I will follow it's adivice to give it more time during the night and report the next morning. Because yesterday I have reinstalled Lion over my existing Lion, so may be it is because of this. fingers crossed…
Ok, thanx - everything is fine now. It just need it's time after a reinstall or upgrade.
To quote the instructions for DL1582. "You should back up your system before installation; you can use Time Machine." Yet Time Machine does not work and it supposedly fixes the Time Machine problem. LOL!

I did the quick system update it referenced. It cleared my slow Time Machine problem and my Spotlight re-indexed my 32 GB's in less than an hour. Now regular hourly Time Machine backup proceed as before the v10.7.5 update. Spotlight is working well as before.
Same here, Time Machine extremely slow, running Lion 10.7.5, took my TM and MacBook Pro 3 times to the Genius Bar (Houston Memorial city), they couldn't fix it... they even sold me a new back up drive, because we thought first it was the disk.
Apple PLS FIX this problem and inform all your Geniuses!

They fixed it - see post post above yours.
Whether they told their Geniuses I have no idea - lets hope so!
@ Peter_watt
Thanks, I just posted and then read the summer-sailor post, just installed the fix, keep my fingers cross for my TM Backup
Wish me luck!
With the new supplemental update, indexing on a clean disk was through in a second or two, backup is moving at normal speed. Looks good. 🙂
Installed the small fix: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1599
Now Time Machine back up about 27Gb in 55 minutes, before the fix was estimated 4-5 days...
Thanks for the good forum input!
as of 10/5/12 there is an supplemental software update to get Time Machine to move quickly with 10.7.5
All is OK now for me (Time Machine + Spotlight).
Thanks for you help.
I have just installed the 10.7.5 Supplemental Update, it rebooted my machine a couple of times and when I logged in, I enabled Spotlight. It then proceeded to successfully index 91GB of in approx 30 mins. I deleted my old Spotlight cache last week.
All is well and I expect Time Machine to return to normal.
