time machine slow in 10.7.5

The Supplemental Update also worked for me--AND, despite Disk Utility's telling me my 3 backup drives that were damaged during the process of trying to sort out the Time Machine etc. problem were not usable and could not be repaired, I was able to run Disk Warrior on them and on the two Macs to verify and repair, etc. So far Disk Warrior has been able to salvage two of the external drives and it's working on the last one now.

Thanks to Apple's engineers for finally solving the Time Machine problem. NOW, they need to work on (a) Disk Utility and (b) improving their internal communications so that advisers who have contact with customers are all fully informed about what is going on. We have all wasted so much time trying to solve a problem we could not correct. For example, one who talked with me in the middle of last week was completely unaware of the 10.7.5 problem and wanted to tell me it was likely to be my hardware and/or data that were problematic.

They should have started with that, as this problem didn't affect everyone, and slow backups can be caused by any number of things.

But once that was ruled out, yes, I couldn't agree more. However, posting this here won't help -- Apple won't see it. Call them back, ask firmly (but politely) for a supervisor or Customer Relations agent, and recount your story.

They need some sort of reference for currently-identified problems; that can be rather difficult, as lots of things can cause the same symptoms, but it's not impossible, especially once a problem has been identified.

Yes, that may be true now if you use Software Update or the App Store; it's probably not so if you use the direct download.

But as long as you end up with 11G63, you're up to date.

FWIW, I just tried updating a fresh 10.7.4 install using Software Update, and the 10.7.5 update that was delivered and installed resulted in build 11G63. No further Supplemental update was needed.

Same problem Here after upgrading to 10.7.5.... Cannot get Time Machine to do anything under 14 Days for 72GB... I'm very dissappointed with this Time Machine.... Even reformatted Psssport 1TB and started over doing Manual Backups!!! Now going to look for Commerrcial Backup Program...... Please keep pushing this because I want to use restore someday if I need to!

Since installing the update and rebuilding the Spotlight index, I have performed Time Machine backups to my two drives and both are working fine.

The new patch helped a lot. No more TimeMachine and Spotlight issues. However I srtill had a lot of freezes and general system instability with 10.7.5. I've since then upgraded to Mountain Lion and couldn't be happier – much snappier and more stable than Lion and no issues with TimeMachine and Spotlight so far.

For everyone that jumped to the end of this threat like I did looking for an answer. The problem with Time Machine being slow is in 10.7.5 update. Apple released a supplemental update to the original 10.7.5 update. Go to software update. Install the 10.7.5 suplemental update. It seems to solve it. Originally it was going to take 55,000 days to back up my 226gb drive! Now it is chugging along here backing up about 3gb in the time it has taken to type this. Says it will be done in 3 hours and I am doing an encrypted time machine backup. To everyone else that pointed me to the supplemental update through your posts here. A huge THANKYOU...

The post Steve Apple jjst appears to be loaded with problems. In the past week I have downgraded my phone back to ios5 to get maps back when the new maps app took me in the way wrong direction responding on an ambulance run while working for the ambulance squad I work for part time. Fortunately the we got there in time even though maps took us in the way wrong direction. And now a broken 10.7.5 update. Very dissapointing Apple. Kind of reminds me of the Gil Ameliio days. Well not that bad yet. And let's hope we don't get back there.

It seems to be resolved. My TM backup takes seconds, now.

Update done past sunday.

Now build is 11G63.

Time Machine & Spotlight seem to be OK.

Backup done in minutes.

Case closed for me.

Botton line is that WE have all experience SLOWNESS of our iMac when 10.7.5 was installed. Why do WE have to worry about fixing this? It take TOO MUCH of our time when it is OBVIOUS that APPLE is at FAULT. Therfore, WE should expect a FIX by APPLE PROMPTLY, as this is affecting OUR productivity. Therefore, I will like to be a tough ***, just like, Apple's founder - get this FIXED.

Did you even look at any other post in this 39 page thread beyond the first one, or maybe check the last post before yours to see what the solution is: that Apple did fix it?

If YOU would drop the ATTITUDE and bother to LOOK at the POSTS on the last few PAGES. . .

you'd see it IS fixed.
