iOS 6 - texts sent to e-mail address sent as .txt attachments

A friend just updated his iPhone 4 to iOS 6, and now the texts he sends to my e-mail address are sent as a .txt attachment (titled "text_0.txt") instead of in the body of the e-mails. This is a problem, since I can't open the .txt attachments on my Kindle Keyboard. Any ideas how he can get the messages back in the body of the e-mails I receive from him?

Just bought an iPhone 5 yesterday. I've always communicated with my husband sending a text to his gmail account (he has a work phone and does not want to use his texts). In the 3 years we've been doing this, we've never had a problem. I buy the one of the most popular, technically advanced phones out there and now my texts go to his email as an attachment. WITW!?!? Why is this happening, APPLE? VERIZON?? Whomever it is, this needs to be fixed!! I am so disappointed!!! 😠

It's even changed with IOS 7 which I just "upgraded" to. Above, you all complain that text to email comes as an unidentified email attachment. I've learned to live with that.

But after I upgraded my phone (not his, fortunately) to IOS 7, we cannot text to my email at all as it comes in as a text, not an email at all. However I can send a text to HIS email which is also on my phone and get the email attachment. My lesson is not to upgrade any IOS system 😟

Summary - my text to is text (and vice versa) OK

My text to his email OK as email (though as attachment)

Any text to my email stays as a text when I want it as an email.

Ouch!
