It's been goofy for me ever since upgrading my iP4 on Wednesday. For the first while I didn't have iMessage turned on (didn't even know that was a setting), then after turning it back on, it would work for a while and then stop responding (could still use messages on iPad running iOS6 and MBPr - but nothing synced to phone). When looking at the settings again, under Messages, it would say, "iMessage activation unsuccessful". But it WAS working for a while.

No idea why the issue.

Restarted the phone, activate iMessages, open messages, messages crashes. Open it again, crashes again. Open it again, it works.

No idea how long it'll go for now. Hopefully it'll stay working.

Hopefully they get this figured out!

Good luck everyone.

Hi,

My name is Paul. I have been terrible upset with the new iOS. I actually feel a bit cheated, any way here is the solution to your problem.

It appears that for some reason the upgrade affects your apple ID. To solve this problem you need to log out with your current ID on your phone and create a new one. All the verification etc will be sent via email.

Then turn off the phone, and re-boot. Go to settings and enter your new apple id into settings.

Now when you go to messages in settings you should be able to enable your imessage feature. It`s a pain, but the only way I have been able to sort out the problem.

If not let me know as I have another idea but it is more labourious

Cheers, and good luck.

PS you`ll also have to sign out of itunes on your computer too, and then sign in withthe new id.

i did this this morning. a pain but a lot better than changing apple id for everything i.e. game center etc. i am assuming if one changes apple id as some suggest that all info under old id would be useless untill signed in as old id again... a pain if use of old id is needed in numerous places...

settings>general>reset>reset all settings....

This worked for most of the day... however... stopped working again not sure I want to keep reentering settings

I also tried the "turn off phone and retart" it worked this time...so.. good luck until it is solved

I updated my iPod and then my son updated his. Instantly I saw we couldn't connect via FaceTime nor could we send any iMessages. It seems to start working again for a short time and then stops working again. I have told my two other family members who have iPhones to NOT update (you guessed it ... They have no problems). I wish I could go back to the old iOS :(

I also updated to IOS6 and noticed that imessage wasn't working. I try to turn it on and it says that "activation is unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again". I have tried to reboot without success. Some of my text have also not gone through. The sending bar says it is sending the message but it never make it all the way. Text's to some indiviuals zip right through and others do not?

i was having a similar problem where my iphone wasnt getting imessages after the update. then i realized that all my imessages was going to my itouch. so after playing around with both of them i had two choices either 1) create a new apple id for my itouch or 2) using the same account, make sure my iphone imessages were only going through my phone number and my itouch imessages were only going through my email address.

Basically in Settings> Messages> Send & Recieve ... let them use two different options.

Hope this helps
