iPhone 5 wifi woes

Got my white 32Gb iPhone today, but am having severe problems with WiFi. I have an airport extreme, and the iPhone detects both bands, and after a few attempts accepts the password required to connect. However, I get no internet connection, and the iPhone continuously drops back to indicating "3G" before it'll fetch any data. I have reset network settings, and now done a restore- neither make any difference.

Hugely disappointed, seems like I have a faulty phone- or is anyone else having the same problem?

This seems like beating a dead horse, but here it goes. I bought my unlocked Iphone 5 32gb from the Apple Store January of this year. I have never ever been able to connect to hotel wifis for some reason, and I have been to about 10 different hotels during my travel the last 7 months, and not a single one connects. My Ipad 2 with IOS5 connects no problem, and so does all my other PC laptops. At home, the wifi signal to my router on the Iphone 5 is significantly weaker than the Ipad 2 (IOS5) at the same distance. The signal on the 5 would drop from time to time, while the Ipad2 never drops the signal. This is really a horrible deficiency on an otherwise great phone.

I had this same problem. I suspect the wifi module is faulty. I called apple care phone support and restored my phone a couple of times. Went to the apple store and they gave me a new phone They would not indicate the problem and we're vague about why I got a new phone. Just ran some diagnostics and went to a drawer and got a new phone.

Apple Care has really paid off for me. I got a new iPhone 5 in Sep 2012. I received a new iPhone 5 in July 2013 after the board fried itself, and a third brand new phone in Dec 2013 because of the wifi not working. 3 new phones in 1 year is not optimal. Glad I didn't have to pay for them.

I still have 2 iPhone 4 hand sets and a 1st generation iPod touch, non of these have had any hardware issues. I don't understand my recent trend of hardware issues.

I have had simillar isues with my iPhone 5, albeith they developed only recently.

An iPhone 4S, several iPhone 3's, an iPad 2, an iPad Mini Retina, MacBook Pro, numerous iMacs all work faultlessly, but my iPhone 5 would not connect to an Airport Extreme a few centimetres away.

My WiFI network consists of an Airport Extreme Gen 1 as the base station, and a further Airport Extreme Gen 1 and two new Airport Express' all setup to extend the network.

I tried all the suggestions in the previous posts to no avail.

This morning I changed the multicast rate of the Airport Extreme Gen 1 base station from 2 to 11 Mbs.

Ta- dah!

The iPhone 5 is now showing maximum wifi signal level allover my home and everyhting else continues to work.

Now if only I could get my AppleTV Gen 1 to stream audio to the new Airport Express'...
