Why can't I turn off Group Messaging?

One of my contacts sent me a mesasge today. It was part of a group message. I have "Group Messaging" turned off and always have, but here it is three hours later and I am still watching this conversation take place between 5 different people that I don't want to be included in. Why is my phone going off every 15-20 seconds while these people have a conversation when I have the feature turned off? And how do I REALLY turn it off?

The fact that the setting "Group Messaging" to Off DOES NOT WORK disgusts me. It does not. NO, setting iMessage Off, also does not always work. I have admired and respected Apple since the very first Mac. I don't discuss this much because it is so embarrassing to me, always bragging Apple to Windows users. Always defending iPhone to Samsung owners. This issue is a stab in the back to ALL iPhone devotees! I know somebody eventually will step in and fix this. But I seriously cannot believe it has gone on this long and will be fixed before my three two-year contracts are up. They fired the guy responsible for Apple maps whose flaws were nothing compared to this. Checking and correcting every street in the world versus making one on/off setting do what it says?!!! Who in the iPhone division is not embarrassed? The only way they could not know about this problem is if they all use droids!?

Yes, I thought going up 3 levels of Apple Genuis, had solved it with "Group Messaging = Off" does NOT turn Group Messaging Off if iMessage = On. !!!???

So if you don't even know that, go annoy another thread!

For the rest of you who actually use the feature. (I think) It worked for awhile (never know until friends complain). Sunday, from my iPhone I sent a text and a picture to 3 of my friends, all with iPhones. One complained again that he was getting a response from my brother (1 of the 3).

I said he didn't know what he was talking about while I re checked my settings (Group Messaging = Off, iMessage = Off). He came over with his iPhone, and boy was I embarrassed that he actually received it as a Group Message and the other responses.

Embarrassed by my non-tech friend, and DISGUSTed that some Apple programmer, manager, tester, etc. etc. can't get such a seemingly simple button to work correctly.

Yes I do have the newest IOS, and no I don't know their versions, but they are IOS 7.x.

Did you brother have Group Messaging set to Off?

Regardless, if someone is using iMessage and sends a group message & you (using iMessage) respond to a group message, it will be sent to all iMessage users in that group message.

Group Messaging On or Off only applies MMS (someone NOT using iMessage).

I find it DISGUSTING that you are allowed to post here & be rude when people are trying to help.

You are not helping if you have not read my post..

I sent the text. I have Group Messaging Off. Which doesn't really mean that Group Messaging is OFF! ... As was explained to me after reserving a slot and driving to Santa Monica Malll. My first Genius couldn't understand why Group Messaging Off. Which doesn't really mean that Group Messaging is OFF! He brought out the next level up Genius who couldn't understand why Group Messaging Off. doesn't really mean that Group Messaging is OFF! 20 minutes later he came in and gave secret access to phone access to the next level up Genius! As a computer guy I felt sorry for him trying rationalize why "Group Messaging Off. doesn't really mean that Group Messaging is OFF!" With iMessage - On, he reasoned, that Group Messaging = Off doesn't mean what it says??

So I bragged to all my iPhone devotees about the solution to this Apple "Quirk" (Group Messaging Off. doesn't really mean that Group Messaging is OFF!) and solved it with us all turning iMessage to Off.

Then last Sunday, from my iPhone I sent a text and a picture to 3 of my friends, all with iPhones.

Thanks in advance to anyone with any help with the real issue!
