iOS 6 battery life

I also took my phone to the Genuis Bar yesterday, and was also told they thought it was a firmware issue, did a restore, and nothing's changed.......battery is still draining like there's no tomorrow.

Wow. I don't think computerjames said to turn everything off. His suggestions are simply that, suggestions to help increase battery. If you don't need facebook or other apps always sending you notifications constantly why not turn it off to save a little battery for other things you DO want. Its simply a trade off. If you want every feature turned on for every app and every app firing off GPS to see where you are (locations) and sending you notifications every time someone changes a diaper or eats a sandwich then leave it on. Just keep your charger handy because it comes at the expense of battery/power. Plain and simple. I saw where you performed the restore and solved your battery problems yes? That will give you the best results but smartly configuring your device will help even more just as computerjames posted.

we are talking about a very important battery issue, your solution usually increase battery life a few minutes more, maybe 2 or 3 hours, that's it.

we are talking about 100% battery harge to 2% battery charge in one night in stand-by mode and all applications closed.

ok so...don't use maps in 3G mode...don't use mail, contact (it synchs thrugh 3G), sms, imessage, internet.

Allison, what phone do you have? Also have you looked into the possibility that there is a particular app that may be causing your issue? Perhaps you can restore as fresh factory and try it and see how it performs. Then if it doesnt work you can go from there. But if it works like it should you can install a few apps at a time until you see which one causes a problem. Yes this is extreme and a PITA but at least that will tell you if your device is faulty. iOS 6 itself is working great for most users so I doubt its the only cause for battery drain issues. Most likely a rougue app or all settings/features for all apps are turned on causing your problem. Also see my earlier post about the reset all settings option. That has helped a lot of people with this issue. Good Luck!

sbailey, probably I was not clear enough and I'm sorry for this.

first of all I'm compairing the iOS 6 battery duration with iOS 5 battery duration with exactly the same configuration before and after the update.

I agree with you that some features that I don't use can be turned off, and I have just the functions I need, nothing else.

But you have to agree with me if I tell you tha, with same configurations and all applications turned off it's very strange that, during the night time, my battery dead while it is in stand-by mode. this is what I'm talking about.

I don't want you to think I want to be against apple for funny like some people do. In my hose everuthing is apple! computers, phones, tablets. i always suggest my frind to buy apple computer or phones, but this time I'm very very disappointend! can you understand me?

I solve the battery issue by restoring my phone again and someone (also from apple store) told me to do that without restoring my old backup. this is insane! they gave me an update, but to let it works I have to lose my data?

don't tell me tha there are many ways to restore alla datas manually, I work in the IT and I can do this...but many many people can't do the the same.

I have a 4S and after going to 6 my battery drains very quickly. How can I go back to 5 and is Apple recognizing this as a problem?

My battery is life is back to normal after deleting my Facebook account from the intergrated FB feature (Settings, Facebook, click your name, Delete Account). I started thinking that since the FB integration updates your contacts and calendar it is probably constantly receiving data. My battery seems to be back to normal after doing that. I was also using the new Maps app a lot over the weekend because I am a Realtor and was out showing property (BTW - I hate the new maps app, Google finds businesses by name almost 100% of the time and Apple's app does not). I have shut down the Maps app so that could also be a factor. I see where several people have said they fixed their battery drain by reinstalling the iOS6 update thru iTunes, but I updated mine originally thru iTunes, and noticed the battery drain the same day. I went through right after I updated and made sure everything I always had done on my phone to save battery life was set like I like it (brightness, mail to no fetch, no synching with iCloud, etc). I also do not use Siri so I know that did not contribute to the battery problem. I truly think it was because of FB. Since changing that, my phone has only dropped 6% in 3 hours and I have talked on it a couple of times. I have a 4s.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification. As for iOS 6 compared to 5.1.1 I am getting substantially better performance with the same configuration (other than some of the new stuff iOS 6 has that was not in 5). So as far as the iOS being at fault I dont think it is. Its more of a bad config or app. You have confirmed this with your restore.

Not sure if you saw my other posts but the reset all settings option will most of the time solve it as well without deleting all your "stuff". Apparently there are issues with phone settings or network settings that have changed a little from previous versions and they just dont seem to update correctly at times. Network is a biggie that causes problems. Another BIG issue is Exchange email. For some reason those settings tend to not update correctly always causing major battery issues. Simple solution is to delete your email account from the device, reboot the device and add the email acct back. Since its exchange/IMAP, you will still have all your email available.

Anyway thanks and glad your device is now working as it should.

FWIW, after some experimentation, following some of the advise here. My conclusion is the Maps/GPS/Location Services are the likely culprit. I went to Privacy/Locations and turned of Locations at the top, killing all Location activity (unfortunately that includes "find my phone". Battery life back to normal on my newer 4s. I am able to use all the other apps as they were before with no unusual drain. Including FaceBook. Since the maps have been changed drastically, there could be something wrong in there.... I'm sure apple will fix it, but this is a good temporary fix for those of you you don't want to re-install everything, and are willing to wait for 6.1... Good luck all!

I can confirm: after update, my iPhone 3GS run up to 2/2.30 pm (before it ran up to 7/7.30), and now with my iphone 5 I can run up to 6/6.30.

There are serious problems: my both device are really hot during use, and my iPhone 3GS wasn't so hot before iOS 6.

While I appreciate the advice, I shouldn't have to do this. Am I correct in saying Apple designed the software and devices to be fully functional by everyone? I had no battery issues until I upgraded to iOS 6! What are the point of features you can't use and a screen so dark you can't see anything?

Apple needs a solution and fast or we will start seeing Android commercials with a bunch of people with iPhones huddled around outlets and squinting into their phones because the screen is dark.

Those of you who read my posts know that I go much better battery by doing the restore. What I learned recently is that it was having LTE enabled that really did the damage to my battery life. That was why my battery lost life while on standby. Apparently, when turned on LTE, the phone will always look for the LTE signal whether it is there or not. This constant searching keeps the phone busy and thus drains the battery. Not to mention, LTE uses battery faster than 3g etc. I live in an area where LTE is available, but accourding to AT&T the signal is weak. That was causing my phone to constantly look for a stronger signal or different tower and draining my battery way too fast. The resore did help a lot as did conditioning my battery. Now I have LTE off (Settings, Cellular, turn LTE off) and I am getting the stats Apple has posted for the iphone 5 as posted...Note: Apple posted their stats as 3g not LTE. There are some of you who truely have bad batteries. You have 1 year of apple care, get a new phone. If you have LTE on, and you do not have a strong, constant source, you are going to see drainage both from it use and more some from it looking for the signal. After I shut this off I was able to turn everything back on (including push, etc) and am still very pleased with the stats I am getting...about 8.6 usage and over 200 standby.

I see this point, for you. But how does this explain all the iPhone 4S and iPad users like myself that all experienced pitiful battery life after the upgrade? I turned off location services and the phone went back to normal. It seems to me that GPS/Maps is the problem. I wish apple would just say SOMETHING!

tracyscottbrooks...I did what you said to do and my battery life has slightly improved. However, when you just mentioned something about turning off LTE, I couldn't find that option on my phone, but it is the Iphone 4s. Would that make a difference as to why I was unable to turn that feature off?
