Setting up Yahoo mail on iPhone 5--wants verification

I transferred from an iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5. So far so good (well, after ATT managed to activate it, which had to be done verbally and contrary to instructions in the box).

Anyway, I cannot set up my Yahoo mail. After inputting my password in Settings, the iPhone tells me that the account requires verification and to log in to www.yahoo.com. In order to do this you have to leave Settings and go to Safari, so I did and logged in to Yahoo. I have no idea why I did that because it changed nothing. I must be missing something here. Thoughts?

Ok, if you want your yahoo mail to work do this.... (this worked for me on 2 different brand new iphone 5's...)

1) Sign in to yahoo mail on your computer. Enter your username and password *plus I got asked to enter the swirly character authorisation code (on one - but not on my wife's computer (?))

2) log out of yahoo mail on your computer.

3) download the yahoo app from the app store onto your iPhone 5

4) open the app and enter your username and password.

5) logout.

6) in <settings> <mail> - delete your existing yahoo email account.

7) in the same place add a new yahoo email account and enter username and password etc...

8) mail should now work normally from the mail icon at the bottom of the home screen

Hope this helps. Email should now push to your iphone5 as it did before.

Cheers.

This worked for me:

1. Sign in to Yahoo and go to Account Settings

2. Under "sign in and security" select "set up your second sign-in verification"

3. Select your mobile phone number if listed or enter your new mobile number

4. After you run through the process Yahoo will send your phone a text message with verification code

5. Enter the verification code on the webpage and your phone will now be authorized to work with Yahoo Mail

Cheers,

Hi Folks, i tried a lot of the method on this page but non worked for me. The info on here was help in some way because i was able to find out that what the issue was was with the verification of the device by the yahoo server.

This is what worked for me:

1. Open safari on your device and log in to you yahoo account at http://login.yahoo.com

A pop up for verification using server generated codes will appear. Enter the alphanumeric characters exactly as they appear for your login to be complete

2. Go back to your Mailbox and sign on using the default Yahoo setting on your phone

That is what worked for me. Good luck

This fix worked for me today when nothing else would --

if you are having an issue adding the yahoo mail account on an iphone/ ipad / ipod where it keeps saying 'verification required' just do the following:

In the app store download the yahoo mail app for iphone (it works on ipads and ipods as well.. but there's only an iphone version). After downloading it - open and sign in. It's likely it will say that your yahoo account is 'locked' due to suspicious activity - follow the prompts to unlock it.

Now add the yahoo account under the ipad mail settings.

It should work in the regular ipad, iphone, ipod mail application now.

Hope this helps

If you are trying to add your Yahoo account to your new or existing iPhone and have experienced the dreaded YAHOO verification code needed message; then follow these simple 10 steps to get your YAHOO mail on your iPhone without having to download the YAHOO mail app. I guarantee it will work flawlessly. 🙂

  • Step 1: Login to your Yahoo Mail Account from a desktop computer: http://mail.yahoo.com
  • Step 2: After you have logged in find the gear icon located in the top right corner. Click that and select Account Info
  • Step 3: Find the section "Sign-In and Security" here you will click the link named "Setup your second sign-in verification" at the time of this writing it was the very last link/option at the bottom of this section.
  • Step 4: Now find the heading App Passwords and click the link "generate app password."
  • Step 5: You will be prompted to fill in your desired name eg "iPhone Mail Access," now click the generate password button and a password will be generated and displayed on your screen. Write this down or keep it on your screen -- proceed to next step
  • Step 6: Go to your iPhone's mail settings Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select Add Account then select YAHOO!
  • Step 7: Fill in all the required fields on your iPhone eg. Name, email address, except for the password.
  • Step 8: Enter the password that you wrote down or have on your screen from Step 5 into the password field within mail setup on the iPhone.
  • Step 9: After entering the password and or description select Next at the top of the screen.
  • Step 10: Configure your mail settings and you are all done.

I hope that this will help someone as I was very frustrated trying to get a yahoo verification code that never seemed to come on the screen going through the iPhone mail setup process. After some time I was able to figure this out and thought I would share what I found. Again I hope it will help someone. 🙂

Katie Black was trying to log on to her Yahoo account 2 years ago and got an answer that solved her problem that same day.
