Scuffs/Scratches On New iPhone 5 Right Out Of The Box

Just opened my iPhone 5 which I ordered from Apple.com. As soon as I opened the box, I noticed nicks and scuffs in the bezel. I realize that at some point this might happen from normal wear and tear, but right out of the box is unaccepted. Is Apple aware of this and if so, what can be done to get this taken care of?

same here. bought a black and a white. Exchanged the black to another one with nicks, the staff said if want a refund then they will only issue a gift card. Went home and call the store to ask whether its possible to get a full refund and the answer was "Yes"

Yesterday I reserved two whites and went to store just now, store said will only give me a gift card for the black one. I opened 4 whites and all with nicks. I have no idea how many percent of the sold ones is with nicks and scuffs, but at least for me its 100%.

The staff at the store also didnt seem to care about this issue as well. They said those nicks are not obvious and even sneered. Come on Apple... is this how you treat a customer for more than 4 years?

Is this an Apple Store? The customer service you received doesn't sound right. Apple's return policy is 30-days on the iPhone 5 with full refund. Assuming there was not abuse or something else that prevents them from taking it back. Just call Apple directly and have the arrange a refund. They'll give you a refund and you can buy something else you want.

I'm somewhat relieved to know that I'm not alone in finding a defect in my brand new, "perfect" iPhone 5, but it is disappointing in light of the fuss Jony Ive made about the perfectionism they put into the "fit and finish." Mine had a little nick on the back edge bezel, not as bad as some I've seen posted here, but noticeable nonetheless. If I knew my phone wasn't going to spend 99.9% of its life in a case I'd probably return it.

I bought my new black 16gig iPhone 5 on 9/21 from the local RadioShack. I witnessed the FedEx driver bring the box with my phone in it, and I witnessed the store associate open the sealed packaging of my iPhone's packaging. I saw a scuff on the back when I pulled it out of the tray. I was too excited at the time to even ponder if I should refuse accepting the phone, but now I'm a bit upset that I am not alone.


The phone's wifi also has issues.

Went to the Apple store today. There were people still in line to buy the new iphone 5. Anyway, they replaced my phone for me, not with a new retail box, but a service phone, which is still a brand new phone. The first one they opened, looked better than mine, but I still noticed some scuff on the frame, though was not sure if it was adhesive, so I asked them to open another one, which looked good this time, and I just went with it. I'm a happy camper now!
