Scuffs/Scratches On New iPhone 5 Right Out Of The Box

Just opened my iPhone 5 which I ordered from Apple.com. As soon as I opened the box, I noticed nicks and scuffs in the bezel. I realize that at some point this might happen from normal wear and tear, but right out of the box is unaccepted. Is Apple aware of this and if so, what can be done to get this taken care of?

Dude, if you want one then get one. If they send you one with scratches that's their problem, not yours. I would just make sure that as soon as you receive the damaged phone, assuming it arrives with cosmetic issues, you call Apple and get a case number or make an appoinment at your local Apple Genius Bar. That way you have documentation that your phone was sent to you in such a condition. Then ask for a new phone. If they don't have any that aren't also damaged, tell them you'll wait until Apple starts producing iPhone 5's without unacceptable cosmetic issues right out of the box. Consider the first one a loaner phone and swap it out in a couple months for a brand new device that is in flawless condition once Apple and Foxconn figure things out. That's my gameplan. Does anyone know if having AppleCare is better than having insurance on my device (Asurion) through VZW?

Well I received my white iPhone 5 taround 1:30 today, Found a small scuff on the back near bezel , seems like it was nicked or something you can clearly see where the scrape is , How disapointing 😟. I shipped out my last one and now i gotta wait till they receive it until i can even think about ordering another one. **** this *****, How do i see when it was built?

Today, went to apple store for a sixth replacement. My current one has a chipped home button, a long scuff along the antenna and a silver piece of debris under the screen. Was told that I would not be able to exchange the iphone again despite the obvious physical imperfections. The manager said:

"You've got this nice case on it. Enjoy this wonderful piece of technology but we are unable to exchange your iphone due to these cosmetic imperfections." I wasn't mad or anything. Just exhausted. I guess I will just make peace with paying full price for a damaged product.

Disappointed. But what else can I do? I have invested far too much time into trying to get the iphone that is advertised on the apple website and at its store.

Well after over 4 weeks I'm sick of waiting for the retailer to replace my iPhone 5. I'm going in tomorrow to have a final stand off as it seems they have made no attempt to even try and swap it, even after apple stated my iPhone 5 should be swapped and the retailer followed this up with apple.

I rang apple yesterday and was told my iPhone can be swapped no problem as the issue was reported within 24 hours of purchase (actually within 24 hours of launch). Only problem is that apple replace with a service part that could be refurbished and could have marks and show some signs of wear. My original iPhone 5 is pretty bad with 4 chips around the bezel and the slate insert on on the back has tiny chips out of it all down the edge as if one of the tooling machines have been a little out when cutting the chamfered edge. Also there is chip under the camera on the rear which is really obvious.

So after seeing what the retailer says and if i get no joy it looks like I will be going through apple to find the best of the bad ones.

I was watching the iPad mini unavailing earlier and noticed Phil Schiller was up to his old tricks again with the machined chamfered edge being so hard it's almost impossible to damage on the iPad mini. To be honest all I was thinking is we are looking the whole chipped and scratched situation again with still no reply weeks/months later.

I totally agree... I watched the keynote and Apple once again brings out the clever marketing campaign with the iPad Mini and iMac. Fool me once. Fool me twice. Three times Apple and you won't fool me. I know better. We know better. I use to buy Apple products right on launch and this time around, I will wait if I ever decide to buy again. I was gonna get the new iMac but I will hold off for 30 days and let all the issues iron out. I don't trust Apple anymore. One too many sour Apples for my liking!
