Scuffs/Scratches On New iPhone 5 Right Out Of The Box

Just opened my iPhone 5 which I ordered from Apple.com. As soon as I opened the box, I noticed nicks and scuffs in the bezel. I realize that at some point this might happen from normal wear and tear, but right out of the box is unaccepted. Is Apple aware of this and if so, what can be done to get this taken care of?

I wouldn't accept that answer. Not even a chance. I would call Apple directly and tell them you want a new phone, period. That's what you paid for. Don't mention that the Genius at Apple was a jerk to you. That's irrelevant. Maybe he was having a rough day, or maybe he's just as frustrated as you and is tired of having to deal with people that have chips/scuffs/nicks on their iPhones. It isn't really his fault. What he said doesn't seem that "jerk-ish" to me, but I wasn't there. Sometimes when we get an answer we don't like we tend to find other things to blame. Not saying that's the case here, just saying. Good luck and stick with it!

Be prepared that at some point VZW is going to tell you they won't give you another phone. They will pawn you off to Apple permanantly. It's happened to me in the past. And it was something that was beyond my control (defective Micro-SD card slot door that kept popping open, went through three of the same devices before they allowed me to switch to another model/brand). But that was several years ago with the LG Chocolate 3. If you run into trouble with VZW contact me here and we can echange e-mails and I'll coach you on how to handle VZW. I'm a master at it by now.

How does the 14 day window reset? They give you that window to exchange the phone ONE time within the 14 days if for whatever reason you're unhappy with it. At least that's how it has always been explained to me. Even if it is scuffed they usually won't budge on that policy. And they love to pawn people off to the manufacturers of the devices (LG, Motorola, Apple, Samsung) when problems like these arise. They're jerks at VZW who act like they're doing you the favor by providing you with wireless service.

Oh I see. So if you repay for the device it resets the 14 days. I gotcha. But doesn't it seem like they would have a limit on that too? Surely they aren't going to send you 10 phones even if you are using a credit card to pay for the new phone each time. Because ultimately they just end up crediting the card back each time they reprocess your return through the warehouse anyways. Any way you can get a pic up of the scuff on the white one you received today? I just wanna see how bad the defect is. I was hoping that with all this time spent waiting for them to ship me my phone Apple/Foxconn would figure this out. Apparently not. I'm actually getting nervous and the Razr HD Maxx is looking better and better the more I hear about these phones still shipping with problems.

For anyone with Verizon I decided to start a discussion over on their community forums about this very issue. Surprisingly no one had done so, so I went ahead and created a thread. Maybe Anthrax and some of the other boys with VZW can mention what's happened to them so if more issues arise in the future we have something to fall back on. That way the customer service reps can check it out for themselves and see there's more than a few people with this very issue. It just makes it harder for them to deny us.
