Scuffs/Scratches On New iPhone 5 Right Out Of The Box

Just opened my iPhone 5 which I ordered from Apple.com. As soon as I opened the box, I noticed nicks and scuffs in the bezel. I realize that at some point this might happen from normal wear and tear, but right out of the box is unaccepted. Is Apple aware of this and if so, what can be done to get this taken care of?

Verizon is due to receive my replacement on Monday. I wont be able to do anything until they process the phone and then I can re order the white iPhone which will more than likely be on Tuesday. Ill give this one more shot. If the next one comes in deffective im going to ship both of the phones back and just to to Best Buy and wait till they get some in stock. At least there ill be able to see what im buying. Im keeping my fingers crossed but not holding my breath

I bought a 16GB iPhone in store on the 26th. It came with a small ding, not a huge deal, BUT it also has an annoying static noise when you speak into the mic. I took it to the "Geniuses" who decided a replacement was in order. Well, the replacement device they brought out looked absolutely horrible. I pointed it out, and he said to take it or leave it, you only get one replacement. So, I am returning the iPhone 5 for a refund and temporarily going back to my 4S until things calm down. I've never experienced such horrible customer service with Apple before 😟.

Today I got iPhone 5 32gb black. From what he saw, and found a small scratch on one more scratch less near the SIM card slot. But the main problem was that the phone automatically turns off after a while and turn it back to be problematic. He just would not turn. I held the power button for a few minutes, the screen does not show the coveted apple. After a while he turned on and then turned off again. The phone will be constantly changing under warranty, I hope that the new one will work as intended.

I just turned down a replacement for my iPhone with static issues and returned it for a refund. They offered a replacement...that looked like it had gone through **** and back. I turned it down, and insisted on a full refund. They were extremely rude about the whole thing, and I am regretting upgrading in the first place. In the end, I have decided to go ahead and reserve a white model, and add the Apple Care+. If there are any issues with them replacing it for any reason down the road, I will just give the iPhone in question to my great dane puppy for a few minutes and pay the $50 for a replacement.

Dont hold your breath on the white one, since those too are being shipped with cosmetic flaws like the first one i got. I thought id be safe with the white but those also show some signs of scratches. Im waiting for them to get my last replacement before i can re order mine from VZW. If this next one shows up deffective im done with them. Ill wait till Best Buy gets some in and ill buy it from them. Atleast ill be able to see what im buying.

Just received my first white iP5 after having 3 black iP5's with cosmetic defects. Very happy to report the white iP5 is unmarked! While I love the stealth look of the 5, the white has it's own jewel-like quality.

Apple UK Customer Service have been very understanding and helpful. Just an annoyance that Apple couldn't swiftly contain the issues and the time it took to get a mint phone.

This makes interesting reading. I have an umarked Iphone 4 which I have kept in an Otterbox case. I went to have a look at the Black Iphone 5 in the store and noticed that all the display models had dents and scuffs on the bottom near the charger port. These were clearly caught by people placing them roughly back on the chargers in store. I looked at the white Iphone 5 and no such damage. I appreciate the additional speed and features of the Iphone 5, but I strongly suspect that Apple is reducing the quality to keep costs down. I will go for white if I do take the jump. The Black model is clearly not made to have a finish that lasts.

If this is the case it would be very sad.

Great to hear you received a unmarked iPhone. I made the mistake of returning my black for a refund, now I am getting the run around from AT&T about my upgrade. They had to make a "case ticket" for it, since for some reason their auto upgrade reversal system rejected mine 😟. It is supposed to be taken care of by Thursday morning, but we shall see. I'm definitely going with a 32GB White/Silver as soon as AT&T reverses my upgrade.
