Are that scratches about black body only? Has somebody issues on white?

I'm going to buy 5 iPhone but it seems that white is better now.

Have 2 iPhones 5 black 32GB here no scratches or anything on both. Europe Version.

  • SF_loft Level 1 Level 1

No. This link shows that it happens on both. purchased_iphone_5s

With white, the non anodized / powder coated aluminum will show less. The black powder coat will easily scratch and the contrast in color will clearly show. It is such a bad idea for Apple to coat metal on a high touch product like a phone. I'm going to baby it and buy a case as soon as I can find one.

This is really dissapointing....unboxed and found mine scratched too...this is not what I would call quality (specially after watching the keynote about the details of hosing design). Back to Apple and will think in maybe waiting for second batch from factory or availability of new backcovers??

In the meantime will rely on my iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1. ....

I have three on mine, one being a ding. Not good enough apple. Getting a replacement next week.

Same problem here, iPhone 5 black 32gb fresh out the box and notice the scuff/scratch marks straight away, not happy. Preordered from Orange, so do I contact them or apple direct?

Same problem here on a 32Gb black. Going tomorrow. Hope they will replace it. I have 4 around the whole phone.

I went through 3 iPhones.  Two black units and 1 unit.  I am on my fourth!  So much for Apple stating this... it'a all marketing and all untrue...

"Never before has this degree of fit and finish been applied to a phone. Take the glass inlays on the back of iPhone 5, for instance. During manufacturing, each iPhone 5 aluminum housing is photographed by two high-powered 29MP cameras. A machine then examines the images and compares them against 725 unique inlays to find the most precise match for every single iPhone.

Look at iPhone 5 and you can’t help but notice the exquisite chamfer surrounding the display. A crystalline diamond cuts this bevelled edge. It’s what gives iPhone 5 its distinctive lines. Fitting for a phone so brilliant."

So they have time to compare 725 inlays but they can't see this stuff coming out of production?  I opened the boxes right in the store and kept swapping them until I found one that didn't have as many marks. I suggest you guys do the same.   This will send a clear message to Apple and cost them big!  This is unacceptable when you spend over 800$ on a device!

I have one tiny nick.  That isn't as big a deal as the slight rattling I can hear up by the camera.  My 4s had that too.   Of course I only hear it when I tap on the back of the phone.   Guess I just have to stop tapping on it.  Lol.  I'd hate to exchange it bcz I have already clear-coated the front and back.

  • iDeviant Level 1 Level 1

Not only did mine come with the scuff but my black iPhone has what looks to be water marks on the back. They are stains that I cannot remove. Looks like hard water sat on it and baked in. This ***** guys! I'm so disappointed! How the **** do you prove to apple or AT&T that you didn't make these scuffs or stains?

  • Kinst Level 1 Level 1

Camera rattle is normal. All iPhones and even more - all autofocus cameras rattle. It's because the construction, the mechanism of the lenses.

So I have read all the posts and felt like it was a big enough deal for me to call apple   So I did.. They agreed that it's not the way its supossed to be...  They scheduled an appointment for me withing two days and noted the date and time of my call    since it hasn't been 24 hours yet...   make sure if u call tell them to make sure to notate the date...

So yeah   go get your phone replaced and inspect it before you walk away from the store...    One more thing   Siri may not sound like herself for a few days...  Look up the posts about that issue

  • GolfBravo Level 1 Level 1

OMG. I've been using my iPhone 5 for a day and the black paint is coming off already!!!

This is really really bad design and manufacturing - I am ****** off.

Something is definitely not right - my wife's pink iPod Mini is seven years old and there is not one single scratch on it.

  • mritacca Level 1 Level 1

The white also has scuffs and scratches easily... the silver bezel is not raw and is painted silver like the black.... take a close look at it when you go to an Apple store... all the demos were easily marked up!

  • Geckoking Level 1 Level 1

I notice a slight ding on the side of mine and the back paint on the corners are already showing wear.  I used it half the day.  This is horriable.  Will apple accept a return and give me a white one?
