Scuffs/Scratches On New iPhone 5 Right Out Of The Box

I noticed this as soon as I pulled my phone out of the box and it looks like it's a fairly widespread issue (link below). I'm sending an email to AppleCare just so there's a recod of it on day one. Not a huge issue, but when you buy a device that (unsubsidized) is $700, you expect it to look new, not used. The black plate on mine seemed dirty too.

same problem with my white iphone 5 32gb att, noticed it as I was restoring in my car. 2 scuff marks around the aluminum band.

I have noticed a very small nick in my black iphone 5's bezel where you can see the silver metal through it. When I take a macro shot with my camera, it is definitely a very small gouge in the metal. I definitely did not do this. But when I took it out of the box, I did not look at it that carefully, it was only when I was waiting for it to sync my apps that I noticed it.

The scuff marks on mine is visible without using a macro lens, I just walk out of the store being very careful with the phone and while I was inspecting it inside my car I noticed nicks/scuff marks, The rep at the att store held it for only a few mins so I dont think it was him that caused those marks.

Here is a pic, as you can see from the scale of the camera lens, it is quite small, but it is highly reflective at most angles. I don't know, I could probably live with it, within a year's time, I'm sure there will be more minor knicks and scratches, even though I take extremely good care of my electronics.

same here. i literally was giddy unwrapping my new iphone and i took it out and i haven't even taken off the screen protector yet. within two minutes, i find a small scratch on the black aluminum on the side

WOW, glad it's not just me, anyone contacted apple about this yet?

I'm on call with them, they are just pushing from one team to another support team...45mins & counting..

I thought I am the only one who has this problem. I found 4 dent on the bevel edges of my Iphone. The reason it is obvious because it shows the shiny aluminum underneath the coating. When I brought it back in for an exchange, the first thing they ask me was "did you drop it?". I told them if I drop it the damage would be much bigger than the dents that I showed them. I thought that they were not very sensitive about the feeling of the customer who just had the phone for less than 2 hour from UPS. It look as if they have a problem with the process. I got the phone exchanged but did not like the look on the face of the customer associate. Will not buy another Iphone again.

I'll just add another frustrated customer to this list. Mine had nicks and scratches right out of the box too! I guess we'll probably all have to wait until there is enough quality stock to exchange these.

Anyone here remember if the iphone 4 or 4S had similur complaints ? This forum and the MacRumor forum is full of complaints about this. Now I'm concerned about my yet to arrive iphone and thinking about just canceling and walking into an Apple store later, purchase, open the box at the counter, to check it out right there, and if necessary, return it immediately. 😟
