Can we delete Game Center from OS X 10.8?

My company is getting ready to upgrade our Macs from 10.6 to 10.8.

We like to keep our installs as streamlined as possible — and also prefer to not have games on our computers to avoid distractions.

Does anyone know if Game Center.app (and Chess.app, for that matter) can be deleted from the Applications folder without harming the OS, or are they tied into the system deep enough that this would be a bad idea?

Thanks!

Thank you.

Our problem will arise when our users find games on Game Center and then go to purchase them on the App Store and can't install them because they don't have admin access. All kinds of headaches and recriminations.

And, frankly, we dont want them surfing around in either Game Center or the App Store. We want them to work.

But, again, thank you for the answer. That is what I was hoping to hear.

Well, I've never used Game Center (or a few others) either; however, from what I've learned over the years, it is better not to delete applications that were installed as default and are therefore part of the OS. Although I won't recommend it, I just tested it for you (tried dragging the application to the trash) and this is the message I got:

User uploaded file

So, you will just have to learn to ignore it like I do.

I do not know if it works on an iOS device - if you purchased it at the app store, you should be able to delete it.

The OS says that about anything it installed. Including such vitally important software like Chess. You can use the Terminal to kill it. Or, highlight the app and press Command+I (Get Info). Click on the lock and enter your Admin password. Change all permissions to Read/Write. Close the Get Info box. You should now be able to trash it.

I just got a new iMac and thought I'd try Chess and that damed thing kept popping up at every move in the game. Know what? Delete it!! I did get the messages that it was necessary for the OS, but I thought...really? Necessary? I'm not a gamer, so I thought that was foolish.

Go to the app, get info, change all the permissions to "read and write" and then delete the app. Gone, done and not bugging me. Chess still works.
