cant connect to ad hoc network with ios 6

I realize there have been a lot of wifi problems with the new ios, but mine seems to be slightly different and I haven't found any info on this specific issue.

I have no problems actually getting onto the internet with my home wifi, but when I try to log onto my computer-to-computer network that I have set up on my mac mini, it says I'm connected in the wifi settings on the phone but there is no signal at the top and I'm not able to log onto my VNC controls for the mac mini which worked so beautifully in the last ios. I'm using an iphone 4 and the newest mac mini with 10.8.

I use the mac mini for performing music and need to communicate with it via iphone over the ad hoc network so I don't have to log into new wifi everywhere I go. Any thoughts?

Add another iPad 3 (iOS 6 - latest) who cannot use ad-hoc (host is a 2012 macbook pro retina).

I literally hear the android forum people pi55ing their pants at us all now - "oooh aple products just work don't they...?"

I've got a show at the weekend where I'm not playing my usual stuff so wanted to use Traktor with touchOSC, I had it working perfectly on iOS5..... Then by my own mistake my iPad3 took a massive s&^t and wiped it's self (I connected it to an unrecognised macbook... d'oh).

So after reinstalling (had to install iOS6) I got the ad-hoc working once without even tinkering with the settings and now today I went back to it to play with it...and now nothing, no wifi bar in the top left to show it's connected to my ad-hoc :-(

After a few hours googling and trying different settings I can get the wi-fi bars up on my ipad now by making the ad-hoc network settings in my iPad Static (using IP 192.186.10.56 / subnet 255.255.255.0) rather than DCHP, but touchOSC still doesnt come up with my macbook's ad-hoc network... GRRRR

I'm going to email my local apple store asking if they know anything about this issue and if not point them at this thread to hopefully action it to higher Apple beings.

This is ********. Now facing this same issue. Just purchased Lemur, quite excited about using it with Ableton yet I cannot get Ad-hoc networking to work. Will work ok on my normal home wifi network but latency is ****, as expected. So my nice macmini, ipad mini, apple airport extreme should all play nice but no.

Tired of this **** Apple.

Indeed. It does take the pee a bit... I arranged an apple care call a couple days ago and spoke to a lovely lass from Kentucky regarding why I can't connect to my macbook's ad-hoc network since updating to IOS6. She couldn't help but she was very nice and happy considering it's 6am there... haha i did tell her to have a look at the forums to get the engineers to sort something out and she assured me they look at these forums all the time....yeh they seem to have missed this one...

I am also a musician who has spent countless hours trying to fix the same NO WIFI BARS problem you all have been facing. For some bizarre reason, I actually was able to send midi info from my Macbook (2009 Mountain Lion 10.8.3) to my iphone (4S 6.1.3). Other than this fluke event, I have had no luck with this unreliable ad hoc connection. I hope this issue gets resolved soon. Untill then, I think I am going to downgrade to ios 5 to this is that works 😠😢

I just got my first tablet computer, wasn't sure whether to go with an iPad or Nexus 10. And 2 days after deciding to go with an iPad I run into this problem. It just reminds of when I got a MacBook Air about 2 years ago that too had some nasty wifi issues that took Apple 1 year to fix, brings back bad memories. I got rid if the MBA, by the way.

I seriously thinking about returning the iPad, get a Nexus 10 and canceling my plans of switching our 2 phones from Android to iPhones.

You never know if I again have to wait a year until this gets fixed. The products look nice, but they got to work too.

I've come up with several work arounds, and eventually I always get connected for music and midi on my iPad and Macbook Pro. It can be a pain and isn't always consistant.

Try this:

1 - If the AdHoc network you made isn't working, MAKE A NEW ONE WITH A DIFFERENT NAME (and password) *it's surprising how often this works! Make sure to break all old wifi connections first; flip the airplane mode on the iPad.

2 - Use a good stable App on your iDevice to start - close all midi related apps, and open just one solid app to ensure you stay connected. I like 'Touchable' as a 'starting app' because it has server software that requires your Network Session - seems to connect well and helps keep me connected as I open other apps.

3 - On your Mac in System Preferences, under Settings/Network, try creating and using a new 'Location' using 'edit locations...' - try even wiping all old locations

4 - When closing down, as a precautionary make sure to end your midi network connection on the computer first, before ending it on the iDevice. Closing all your midi apps, or letting your iPad go to sleep causes a 'Network lost' error. Seems to bugger things when you try connecting next time.

---------

** If all else fails, a reboot on both devices (with possible PRAM reset on mac,) and a new adhoc network with a new name - will almost guaranteed work.

Cheers!
