iPhone5 bluetooth not working

I fixed it on our iPhone 5 as follows:

Update the iPhone 5 to OS 6.1.

Disconnect the iPhone 5 from the car bluetooth, and then re-pair the phone with the car's bluetooth.

After that, our iPhone 5 works the same as an iPhone 4S with my Honda CR-V.

Works great now.

Seems like it's working with the Honda's. Can't say the same for Nissan 😟

I have an after market system. The guy who installed it said that they have had many people complain and that he has to wait on Apple realeasing a fix. Or is that just ********? Seems that many people are having this problem.

Don't sweat it...It's this guys MO to be that way. Just take a look at other posts....

Have to say this is one of 'those' problems that Apple really needs to address, by 'those' I mean one that's pretty serious, impacting on quite a lot of users & they are pretending it doesn't exist. They seem to have a few like this at the moment, audio streaming to remote speakers or ATVs that drops out all the time is another one.

Anyhows... back OT - this is really driving me crackers. Worst part is it's so intermittent. I've upgraded to OS6.1 on my iPhone 5 & still it's flakey on my Toyota. it will be fine for days & then either the phone can't be found by the car or it will suffer from 1 or 2 sec dropouts mid-way through a tune.

I have found if I turn my ignition off & on again it will often connect properly (risky at 80kms/hr...) or turning BlueTooth off & on again on teh phone often works.

What I've also found is that the link seems very susceptible to interference so for example if there's a semi with a big radio-rig nearby drop-outs will start & then won't stop again until I take one of the measures above. Also I was at the airport the other day & the link kept breaking...

I just bought a bluetooth speaker set to use with my 6.1 iPhone 5, and guess what? The bloody thing does not pair! I tried rebooting all devices but to no avail. I tried it with an 6.1 Iphone 4 and it worked seamlessly.

So obviously, there's something wrong with IP5 and its bluetooth software. Apple, wake up!

Or, something wrong with your Bluetooth speaker set, which you should probably return if you just bought it.

I see you have helped a lot of people. Tell me how pressing both the Home Button and the Sleep/Wake Button at the same time is different from just holding down the Sleep/Wake Button?

Someone from this site advised me to use the two button combination and this fixed my Bluetooth headphone to iPhone 5 problem. Rebooting (using the Wake/Sleep Button only) did not. I think this distinction is important for other people with Bluetooth issues, but I have no idea what the difference is between the actions. If you could explain this you might assist some of the folks that are here looking for help. THANKS!

Some times it pays to actually read the whole thread (as painful as that may be). The cause of this has been explained before. The iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S together with iOS 6 implement Bluetooth 4.0 - the latest BT standard (2010). Although the BT 4.0 standard is compatible with BT 2.1 some BT 2.1 drivers were written incorrectly and they are not fully compatible. That's the heart of the problem. Some manufacturers have already released updated firmware to correct this problem.

Most speaker vendors didn't have bad drivers and there are no problems. For example, I'm using the Jambox by Jawbone BT speakers with no problems at all on my iPhone 5 with iOS 6 and now iOS 6.1.

I had the same problem where my Platronics hands-free device would not be found by my new iPhone 5 using Blue Tooth. It would spin indefinitely without fiinding the device. I saw a post further down in the stream that said about holding the button on the hands free device while the iPhone had BT turned on. I turned on the hands-free device and kept holding the button, the iPhone 5 very quickly reconized the device. (I did not have to do this with my old iPhone 3G, but that is what worked for the iPhone 5. Give it a try. It worked for me after being frustrated for hours trying to get it to work.

The OS 6.1 update cured the problems on my Nissan Altima (knock on wood).
