Iphone 5 Camera not working overheating

Just bought the iphone 5. Neither camera works! All I see is a closed shutter screen. As I wait for the shutter screen to open, the top of the iphone starts to get hot. It also gets really hot when I talk on the phone. It burns my ear.

Called customer support. Tried on/off. Reset. Nothing fixes the problem!

iPhone 5, iOS 6

i tried everything ! reset to original, reset all settings, even tried resetting through itunes! i can get the front camera to work for about 15 seconds if i try to face time someone, the back camera hasnt worked since that one time in the store. SO fusterating because I already had to exchange the first one I had delivered today cus it had 3 scratches and this ones still not perfect and the camera is not working ! Looks like I'm going to spend another 6 hours at the mall tomorrow...

HEY!

i just figured it out 5 hours later!

Try this, go to settings, restrictions, turn restrictions on, block the camera, save it. the app will disapear from ur home screen. go back to settings, restrictions, unblock camera and then turn the phone off ! once it is turned back on it worked FINALLY goodluck! I'm still going to my applecare appointment tomorrow, will post if they say anything else!

UPDATE:

it stopped working again hahaha false hope 😟

I don't know about the camera overheating part... but I have also had this issue with my Iphone 4 after I upgraded to IOS 6. My iphone 5 does not appear to have the same issue (yet maybe?) 😐 I have tried paranoma

The Iphone 4 totally froze with just the shutter showing and the phone bacame non-responsive. I had to do a "crash restart" (hold down both home and sleep buttions until the phone kicked back to life.) 😟

The problem just happened the first time I used the camera after the upgrade... hasn't happened again 😉

Ok, it seems like the problem is solved in my iPhone! After I did the restriction thing Jen139 posted above, the camera was still freezing, so what I did was a soft reset, and then the camera started working! No worries, no data will be lost with a soft reset.

To do a soft reset, all you need to do is:

1. Turn the phone off by pushing the sleep button for a few seconds, and then sliding the power off button that shows on the screen.

2. Once the phone is powered off, push and hold both the home button and the sleep button, at the same time. Release them when the apple appears on the screen. And then wait until the iPhone re-starts.

In my case, once the iPhone was back on, the camera was working normally! It has been working for about 24 hours now without freezing, so I guess it's finally ok!

Of course, now I found out another problem... my iTunes songs won't play... gonna look for a solution for that now... 😢

Yeah, it was definatly a hardware problem for me. I went to the Verizon store and they immediatly said to call customer care to replace it, and that some iPhones come broken out of the box. I forget what he said but there was some term for that. It seems like a common thing if you look on youtube it happens to about every generation on the iPhone. Maybe your problem is different from mine, but this is what happened to me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvGTC891Zo

Out of the box mine have a little scratch, a rattle, and a broken front facing camera. If you have this problem just go to your carrier.

Iphone 5 over heating (too hot to handle)

Even with no aps or programs operating the phone becomes too hot to hold.

I spoke with Apple on the over heating issue. Even after restoring per instructions, the too hot to handle issue persists, which means it's hardware and not software related. You are then presented with two options.

Option A: Apple charges you to have a replacement phone sent, $29.99 (2-3 days)

Option B: they send you an empty box (2-3 days), you put your defective over heating phone in the box and send it back to them for a replacement to arrive (7-10 days)

Option C: They wouldn't entertain an Option C where they send me a new phone free of charge, and the old one is sent back in the box.

My lingering question is whether or not the phone will burst into flames in a contained shipping box? X)

I also had the same problem with my new iPhone. The camera app remained frozen in the shutter, it worked once, but then I switched to HDR and it became frozen again. The brief moment it worked I could notice that the flash was also badly synchronized, the pictures looked greyish. This is a joke, how can a company like apple let this malfuncioning devices go out from factories. I feel very disappointed.

I took it to my carrier and now I have to wait 10 days to have my phone. 10 days without phone line. I was tempted to ask for a Samsung Galaxy.

😠 a very disappointed long time client.
