iPhone 5 wifi signal strength issues

I received the iPhone 5 today and can't seem to connect to my wifi. If i move closer to the router I get some bars. If i place the phone on top of the router I can connect and get full bars. But move accross the room and the signal drops off completely. My old 4s has no trouble getting full bars anywhere in my house and even gets half strength outside. Both are running iOS6. I tried hard restarts and settings resets and nothing works. This is obviously a hardware issue, as my iPhone 4s, iPod touch 4th gen, and new iPad all run iOS6 and have no wifi issues. Anyone else having this issue?

HI everyone. I had the same issue on my iPhone 5 re: if I was within 2 meters of my router it was fine, but as I started to walk away, the wifi dropped. And if I went to the settings for wifi, it wouldn't even be able to locate (show) my router. I walked around the house with my iphone 5 and iphone 4 and snapped pictures of them both showing the iphone 4 finding my router (as well as other routers in the neighborhood) and the iPhone 5 finding none (just in case I needed to show them at the apple store.)

I scheduled an appointment at an Apple Store and the phone had the same issue at the store in not finding the Apple Store wifi. The Apple employee was super, within 5 minutes I had a new phone, they assumed a faulty antenna. We tested it right at the store and it was picking up wifi fine. Had it since yesterday afternoon and it is working as it should. So if you are having the signal strength issue or finding that your phone cannot even locate your router, you should consider taking it in.

Wow... thats ridiculous, seems like apple really rushed these out. Too much demand put them under alot of stress I guess. Speaking of faulty hardware, since we are on the subject, thought id mention that my SIM card was bad, had to take it into att and they had to change it. (Ordered the phone through apple).... It happens though guys, especially when manufacturing this many phones

I thought I'd chime in. This is EXACTLY my situation, with my new iPhone 5 having been received via online order yesterday.

I ordered mine on Sept. 19, and got it yesterday...not bad at all! However, I immediately noticed this Wifi signal strength issue, can't add anything to what's been said.

Close proximity to the router is the only thing that "solves" it.

Oh, and on a related (or unrelated) note: Turn on LTE, as often as not soon after it reads "No Service". I have to turn LTE OFF before I can use the phone at all.
