Q: iPhone 5 battery draining very fast

Im just anticipating the released of ios 7 im sure if your iphone 5 doesnt have a defective battery , your issue will be resolved later..... i hope you know what i mean .....update your iphone today after the release of ios 7 in your area .....you will be amazed ....tell me if its still draining battery that much ....

yes it is, I'm using the new ios 7 and the battery went from usage 7-8 hours to 4 hours so far I'm at the moment I've got 11% left of battery but I'll keep you informed.

I been struggling with the battery drainage problem since last January.

Prior to that everything works fine.

After that phone tend to overheat and battery drain super fast on a daily basis.

I changed a brand new battery 2 months ago and the problem is still there.

However things since better now with IOS7, I been testing it for the last 12 hours and all seems normal now.

I keep my finger crossed as I won't be happy at least until I'll be testing it for another few days.

I've got the opposite experience. iOS 6 + iPhone 5 = 6 hours at a push ios 7 + iPhone 5 = 4 hours ..... I love my iPhone but I can't justify the price of a 5s in the hope the battery life is better there :(

Well, I wonder if some people actually read anything here?  I am totally in agreement with InnerChild, Zombi & Dom.  Naveed, please read our comments properly.  We all had perfectly working phones that changed overnight.  We had changed nothing, so why should we think we need to switch half of the functions off?  What is the point of having the phone in that case? Plus, it makes no difference whatsoever.  My problem started the same day as Zombi's, I am intending to try ios7 later today although judging by some comments already, this may not help either. At least I can carry a charger around in my handbag, I freelance and work in lots of different places so a reliable phone is crucial, and now my phone is far from that.

Installed iOS7 this morning, and the battery problem still persists, seemingly unchanged. Made an appointment with the Apple store for Sunday. I'm still under warranty, so hopefully they can replace my battery at least. Having a mobile phone that basically NEEDS to be tethered to an outlet in order to work does not meet my definition for the term 'mobile'.

Jools777 and anyone else in this boat, I started a new thread for those of us who have tried all the troubleshooting, made all the phone calls and are still stuck. I want to use my phone as it was promised to me. Today I phoned AT&T again as my data on this new 6.1.4 is again climbing and again my battery is draining. AT&T agreed this has definately been a problem going back to the day I updated the phone to 6.1.3 but you can read what I documented in my new thread and please add your experience to it. For now I'm just ignoring those who post repetitive messages regarding troubleshooting we've all tried but we can ban them from the new thread if it becomes a nuisance. I expect to put IOS 7 on my phone tomorrow but like others, I'll be thrilled but stunned if I see an improvement. If you would go to discuss this on my thread it would be appreciated. Apple IPhone 5 data spiking / battery drain? after ios6 / bug?

Installed ios7 overnight and surprise surprise, it is now draining faster!!!  And since the problem started, it no longer backs up to the icloud automatically when plugged in etc.  Have to do it manually.  Looks like another Apple appointment for me too!

It's actually weird because i am using a iphone 5 with IOS 7 on it. The first day of installition i got usage of nearly 4 and 30 mins 2nd day i got almost 5 hours and 30 mins and today is the third day i got usage of 6 hours and 40 mins of usage and almost 20 hours on standy. Note that i let my battery die out completely till it switched off. It really helps if you do that and delete e mail accounts and reset your phone. So yeah best thing is delete e mails than reset your iphone and just let it die out. Oh when you charge try to charge it with it being switched off and leave it off for 2 hours at least.

You do realize that draining an iPhone battery completely only makes it worse right?

You don't realize that you are completely wrong. Draining the battery does nothing either way to resolve battery drain problems. It DOES recalibrate the battery gauge, however, which is a good thing to do periodically. Apple recommends doing it monthly.

Li-Po batteries don't need to be calibrated daily fyi and Apple or anyone else for that matter with knowledge of Li-Po technology advice to drain the battery completely no more than once in a month

I wish I could say the same and agree with you but unfortunately it doesn't make it worse for me at all. I've been doing it everyday and guess what? My battery has been the best. When iphone 5 came out you know when no ios update was released 6.0.0? My battery was the best ever I was getting 12-14 hours of usage and 2 days and few hours standby. It's not been the battery but the problem has always from my point of view been the software updates from apple and the bugs. After ios 6.0.0 the first installation ios on iphone 5 it was the best after many months ahead with more updates the phone battery went shorter and died quickly. 

Okay, when should I charge my phone? At what percentage?

How was your battery life on 6.1.4?
