    That could be what happened in my case. I restarted my iPhone 5 and it's back to the usual 8.5 hours plus of usage time now.


    About running warm, it does seem to run a bit warmer when outside and it falls back from LTE to 3G.

    Turning off Push seems to improve for me, BTW. Guessing my iPhone 5 is going a bit nuts over my T-Mobile network with my Exchange 2010 Mail server. Thinking this can't be as intended...Houston, we have a problem with our iPhone 5 software update!

    i am having the same issue, my battery is going quick down, even with the IOS 6.0.1,

    hopefully there is a new release to fix this, and even the internet issue when you are in Wifi!

    I can't even read all of these posts but I am having a similar problem since the upgrade to iOS6.  My iphone 4 and my wifes Iphone 4s the battery keeps training. we have to charge it at least 2 sometimes 3 times a day.   we are not doing anything to crazy on it.  Has there been any update on this?  Has Apple admitted a fault in teh latest iOS?

    My fix was deleting Skype. My battery life doubled from 10 hours standby to 20 hours. There seems to be a bug in Skype which keeps it running in the background.

    I haven't signed in to Skype since I had the phone. I'm still having some battery issues. Today I used my phone as a wifi hotspot and indeed my phone ran hot! The update has somewhat improved my battery on 3g but, not really on wifi. I use wifi a LOT to save on my data plan. Data plans here in Canada are some of the worst in the world so wifi is essential here.


    Lesson learned. I probably won't buy another iphone and most assuredly I won't ever buy a just launched product again from anyone. This was the first time I've bought something that "just" came out but, I have had a house full of Apple products and was satisfied with them all before. Admitedly I do think though my Macbook Pro has many positives, it was very expensive to have the issues it did have. Power handling issues with the headphone jack that have never really totally resolved, running hot at times etc. Still the positives outweighed the negatives on that one and Apple still makes better laptops than the competition far. And for what they cost that should be a given.


    However, after this very disappointing experience with the iphone 5 I'm not so sure I'll be touting their virtues in the future. Having to buy extra power connectors just so I can travel with this very expensive device that ought to be above all reliable is unacceptable. At the very least Apple should start giving away free car, travel and extra charging connectors for everyone stuck with this phone. I don't think after spending as much as this phone costs I ought to have to buy extra charging devices just to get the same battery operation I had with the iphone 4 on ONE charge a day or less most of the time. This phone was not ready for prime time.

    Finally the common part is : Network access, I mean cellular...


    At home on wifi no problem, traveling all the day with push, notification and few min to surf, bam iPhone get warm and battery % melt like snowflakes in an oven...


    I suppose it can be Lte chip but where I live there is no LTE currently, so I guess this is the cellular data chip, this is the only solution... Unless an invisible iAd or a constant position sending to Apple... ;)


    I hope that a solution will be found and not a : buy the 5S...

    well, i have found the main root cause of what seems to be why i am having battery issues.




    i turned it off and used the phone as normal and got over 24 hours worth of standby and 7 hours of usage...


    if i am in a LTE area - going to a '4G' area - the phone loses all its internet connectivity..then takes a minute or so to find it. this happens multiple times per day for me, but not with LTE turned off..


    such a shame too, because LTE is super fast - i am on ATT network

    I turned off LTE as well.  At least for me, the drain remains the same. 5% every 20-25 minutes if I do anything other than let the phone sleep. I am going to exchange for one final time (will be my third device), then go from there. I agree with others comments that such a premium phone should not have these issues---I did not expect to get "as advertised" life, but not getting 1/2 there isn't acceptable. I also have a hard time, unfortunately, "fetching" rather than pushing Exchange email b/c I travel a ton w/my job and do need to be on top of my emails as they come in.

    I had this problem and tried all of the solutions, ie deleting caches, resetting settings, turning off location services etc.  I found a thread that suggested it may be an iCloud issue. I went to settings, deleted iCloud account and then left it for a few hours. Bingo battery back to normal.  I re signed in to iCloud....4 hours later still ok.  Please give this a go!

    Okay so location services worked for me.   I had to remove them from passport.  It is a shame to have a new feature you can't use but at least the battery is lasting more than a couple hours.  <<insert defeated shrug and sigh here>>

    If they don't get a fix by the end of my return period from best buy, I'm gonna have to return the phone.   It seems like there is a wide ranging problem with certain apps overworking the cellular connection.  I just lost 20% power with one hour of use using wifi with cellular data on bug LTE off and the battery drain is the same withLTE on.  I am going to try a wifi only test with cellular data turned off to see if things change.  The hour of use was spent doing basic iPhone functions like text, email, safari, settings, and Facebook.  No weird extra apps nobody hasn't heard of.  I am really bummed about all of this. I have had a dead iPhone on most of my train rides home.  C'mon apple.  Help!!

    Little update.  All apps are updated.  Screen brightness is around 30%.  I am trying wifi only at the moment for the next hour.  I had 2 hours of use and would say I am losing 18-22% per hour.  Neither figure adds up to the specs found on the apple website for iPhone 5.  I expect at least 7 hours for a brand new device doing basic iPhone tasks.  It seems like I get an average of 5.5 hours.  Nothing remotely close to 8 hours.  Anyway. Lets see how wifi data only works
