iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

Want a good laff? Here's an ACTUAL CHAT I just had w AT&T support. Also, I didn't know there were Eastern Indian Apple Support Guys named: "Kyle Gonzalez". LMAO Jus' Sayin.....

9/27/12 Chat Window

Please wait for a chat representative to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Kyle Gonzalez'

Kyle Gonzalez: Hello and welcome! Thank you for using AT&T Wireless Online Chat Support!

Kyle Gonzalez: I see the battery life in your iphone 5 is not lasting long?

Coo: NOPE. This seems to be a widespread issue. I also read that APPLE F'd up and shipped some units with an "Inferior" Chinese-Made battery in order to meet demands for the device. HOW DO I KNOW if I have one of those crappy batteries???

Coo: Is this something you advise I take up w APPLE?

Coo: IE: is AT&T "Wiping Their Hands" on this one? LoL

Kyle Gonzalez: I'm very sorry to hear that. I'm sure that must be frustrating for you.

Kyle Gonzalez: How long is the battery lasting for you on a full charge?

Coo: Maybe 5 hours if I'm lucky.. My old iPhone 3GS lasted much, much longer and it was 3 years old

w the original battery in it!!

Coo: Lots of theories on the web: 1. It's iOS 6, 2. It's the bad batteries, etc. etc. LoL

Kyle Gonzalez: Your the first customer that has addressed this issue with the iphone 5. I don't think Apple

would be putting different batteries into some of the devices to meet demands, but I can tell you that LTE does

use more battery life since it's transferring much faster data speeds. On top of that there is a powerful

processor in the phone allowing for much more multitasking, which will use a lot more battery life when put to

the test Mr. ______.

Kyle Gonzalez: Hello are you still there?

Coo: yes

Coo: FIRST to address this issue!! go put "Iphone 5 battery problems" into Google.. LMAO It's ALL OVER the chat boards and the apple support communities on Apple's own website.. I'm the first!! C 'mon man is that what they're "telling you to say"?? Also, we don't have LTE here in _________ , AND - I have the LTE "deactivated" - turned off - in the settings.. :-)

Kyle Gonzalez: There is nothing I'm required to tell you Mr. _____. This is the first time this issue has been

addressed to me, and it's not an issue AT&T or Apple has addressed yet. I'm telling you what I know. If you're

not satisfied with the phone you're under your 30 day buyers remorse and can return the phone to the point of

purchase for a different phone or a refund. You can also speak with Apple about the issue as they are the

hardware manufacturer of this phone and would have more information on such an issue.

Coo: OK man. Thanks. I'll call Apple. Have a good day.

For me Kevin,

I just looked at I dont talk on the phone often, so it was 1 hour 21 min cell time, but that doesnt seem right as I barely use any minutes. Last month I used less than 51 min total talk time..so that is weird..just calculated my call stats...

25 second call

59 second call

13 second call

19 second call. where is this 1 hour 21 cell time coming from?

Rest of the time is imessage/browsing/email checking...

From 100% my phone went to 10% with 4hours 0 minutes of usage. It's mostly internet usage. So I should be getting basically double that. The Applecare person emailed me a link of technical specs and battery life tips as a fix. L.O.L.

I did set up my phone from a backup, and I understand I should restore it from new as the next step to see if helps? I'm very hesitant to restore as new because I don't want to lose the pictures from my camera roll. 3,500 of them. Yes they are backed up. But I want them in my camera roll.

So my question to anyone here is would it help to even try again to restore my phone from a backup or do I really really need to restore as new to go on???

I'm on my second phone. Swapped out the other night after messing with the first one for way too long. This one's no better. Consistently losing 4% every 10 minutes with nothing running that should cause that (i.e. Bluetooth, LTE, etc.)

So I just got off the phone with Apple Support (again). Was transferred to a "senior advisor". I sent him diagnostic info, but he said it really hasn't been long enough since my last restore for him to tell much--but from what he's seeing, the battery life looks great. He instructed me to download a battery monitor app and he'd call me back somtime next week for new diagnostic information.

What was interesting is that I told him that this is clearly a fairly common issue and asked if Apple was doing anything about it, or if they had determined whether it's software or hardware. He said that if he had any information, he wouldn't be allowed to give it to me anyway, but that he "has not been getting any information that this is a trending issue at all; and it has not been flagged in any way."

That being said, if you are having problems, call Apple Support! Nothing's going to get fixed if they don't know how many of us are having issues.

*sigh* I really dislike the idea of basically not using your phone in order to save the battery. Lol I want to use it for its intended purpose. I'm not expecting miracle numbers from the battery life. But I think 4 hours usage is not enough. For a brand new battery.

As far as the new restore, I know I can copy all my folders of photos but what about the camera roll specifically? Can I still get them back there?
