iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

I've done what tracyscottbrooks is lecturing us about and while she insists it fixes it it does not in my case. I spent an awful lot of time doing so. Does this mean I can no longer post since she owned a blue G3 and I had a gap between my IIe and the iPhone?

I hope this is a software issue because it appears as if those swapping phones are getting mixed results.

My new signature - typed in an iPhone5 while plugged in to the outlet to attempt to still have power during happy hour this evening.

I charged my iphone to 100% at 7 am yesterday and its 8 am the next day with still 20% left. I turn off bluetooth, leave my location apps down to just about 5 that I need on a daily basis. I also turn on my wifi when I am at work or home because this keeps the phone from searching for a 3g or 4g signal all the time PLUS it doesn't use my data plan allowance. A win win for me!!

There is an extremely nasty Safari bookmark syncing bug that drains the battery quite fast. It is related to corrupt bookmarks. Once the bug has manifested, it doesn't matter whether or not you have iCloud sync turned on or off for Safari - as soon as you run Safari after restarting the phone, the bug crops up again. (For the interested, the "webbookmarksd" process starts running then crashing over and over, chewing up battery and data.)

Please see the following thread for excruciating detail - some other users and I have done troubleshooting on this to narrow down the cause, how to see if it's happening (you can take a look in Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage > Diagnostics & Usage Data to see a list of crashlogs - if you have a whole bunch of "webbookmarksd" entries there, bingo!), and a painful but apparently effective workaround if you want to avoid setting up the phone as new.

I hope that Apple is paying attention to this, since it's a real, reproducible bug that they should be able to fix.

I'm patient with this stuff and have total faith Apple will fix the issue or make it right. I've tried everything mentioned in here and have seen minor improvement. I'm also hoping a little more use and perhapse a software patch will do the trick. It's all good. If it doesn't work out I'll swap phones or return it and go anothre route.

That said I am amused by the initial response of Apple and even some folks in here.

Me I have a battery issue

A. Here try the things in this document

Me I've already tried all those things, and did the same with my old phone years ago

A. Here let me forward the document to you

Me But I already have seen and done everything in the document

A. Let me send it to you anyway

Me Um Ok.

A. Ok thanks for calling have I helped you

Me Not really

A. Thanks for calling

As I said it's similar to some of the responses in this thread. Its as if there is one tool and it should fix everything and when it doesn't you should just try the tool again. It's a South Park episode waiting to happen, maybe it already has.

In the mean time there is an issue. I don't know how widespread but there is. And again I have faith it will be solved. It is just frustrating in the mean time.

Today my battery is still at 100%

Usage 15 minutes

Standby 2 hours 58 minutes

The battery seems to work fine when I don't use the phone and it is just on standby. That leads my totally uneducated mind to beleive my issue is likely not with the battery itself but with the software or maybe (less likely) another peice of the hardware. that also leads me to beleive I should sit tight and watch things evolve. However Apples response is less that encouraging i nthis regard. The way they communicate could be more helpful.

Ok this is really getting out of hand. My battery just dropped 17% in 54 minutes.

ebrown711 : did you wipe and start from scratch, or did you "restore" from an iTunes backup?

For anyone following my thread: I did the wipe last night. Charged overnight. 100% at 7:30 am EDT - now 11:07am, and I'm at 91%, with minor usage - ~10 minutes of voice calls, and about 20 minutes of email. A few texts. Pretty normal usage. Wifi is on at my office and we have LTE here in NYC. Bluetooth is off.

I turned off many notifications prefs based on this article:

http://www.iphonehacks.com/2012/09/iphone-5-battery-life-tips.html

Still confused about "Settings > generals > Usage > Time since last full charge...

My usage and standby numbes are identical (3 hrs 46 min). But the phone was on standby for at least 2 hrs today. Something is up? Gonna visit a genius at 2:40pm today NYC/UWS.

I am getting substantially better battery than yesterday. But I want to have apple look at diagnostics again, just in case.

PLEASE, EVERYONE contributing to this threaqd, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE state if you did a complete wipe and NOT a restore (even if your phone was new -- did you do a full reset to factory before config?)

If you did a complete wipe and still have issues, then that's worth noting. If you did not wipe, plese try the wipe -- it may solve your issue. Then report back.

to add to what mef613 said.. the fix does work.

Did a complete charge after doing the fix last night and had a 100% charge as of 12:15am. woke up this morning and phone was at 96% @ 6:30am.

at work now and its at 90% after being on twitter, checking stocks, and playing a game for 5 mins to show someone the screen.

Battery status - everything is on

Remaining: 90%

Usage: 1hr, 5min

Standby: 7hr, 44min

Prior to fix - All additional services turned off, no location, no lte, no wifi, no bluetooth, no notifications

Remaining: 62%

Usage: 1hr, 48min

Standby: 1hr, 49min
