iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

In another thread called iPhone 5 short battery life? The guy took his phone to the Genius Bar and I guess the issue for some is that people are restoring their phone using a backup. If the usage time and standby time and if these times are close then some processing is happening in the back ground. I guess he fixed his issues with a fresh install using factory settings.

I restored my phone using my 3GS backup file and it's fine. After 4.5 hrs I'm sitting at 85% with light usage.

I have been on this thread and posting that I had all of these same problems.

I did the DFU restore, I set up the phone as a new phone, then I restored from back up and so far so good. Phone no longer running SUPER hot and the battery life appears to be normal.

Boy am I glad I am not along.

Noticed this issue on my iPhone 5 almost immediately, and decided to go to the Apple store to discuss it.

The guy said he thought his phone was also draining fast, but he suggested restoring it as a new phone.

This solution just isn't somethign I am keen to do, lots of apps and data that will need to be restored - and especialy since i used iCloud to do the original restore...

I hope this issue is resolved soon by Apple before I break down and do the restore...I just don't have the time.

I did the DFU restore then backed up from my last iPhone4 backup and today so far so good - left on my desk all day at work, checked my emails a few times sent a few texts, logged into FB, power stayed above 90%, until I came home, couple of quick phone calls to the children so now it's 79% but that is a massive improvement on the weekend when it just ran down 2-3% every five minutes. And it's not getting hot now either.

can you point me to the exact directions for doing DFU restore from iCloud?

so after my second battery recycle (complete discahrge complete recharge)

No change. so this morning after my phone was

72%--- 45mins usage----2 hours 57mins standby

then i did a reset of settings i got

46% --- 1hours 54 mins usage (114) --- 5 hours 1 minute

lets do the math

first part of the day was 28% battery depletion in 45 minutes... so 45 mins divded by 28% is 5.178% a minute?

the second part of the day was 26% usage in 69 minutes ... so 69 mins divided by 26% is 2.65% a minute

someone check my math

Someone posted in another thread that some batteries were made in China due to production issues.

I called they set me up for a genius appoint ment for a new phone

I have had no problems with my phone on standby. Three nights in a row i left it off the charge at 100% and each morning i woke up to a fully charged iphone. Problem is when i use the phone the battery drains quickly. I have done three full cycles of charging each evening and my battery life is getting better. Takes the lithium ion battery some time to create a cycle. 1st day: Only 3 hours of use and 6 hours of standby time. 2nd: 4.5 hours of usage and 16 hours of standby. 3rd: 6 hours of usage and 20 hours of standby. Currently on day 4 and have 5.5 hours of usage and 18 hours of standby with 25% battery life remaining. So it seems to me that the battery IS getting better. Not sure if this is the way to go about it or if there truly is a software or hardware issue. I did contact apple care and they DO KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE. They said that apple is working on finding a cause to solve the problem. They are not sure at this time if there truly is a cause or if the battery just takes time.

Does anybody have a sense of whether every purchaser of an iPhone 5 has this problem? Do you know anyone whose iPhone 5 does not have this battery issue? So far I'm the only one in my circle who has the new iPhone, so I can't tell how widespread the problem is. I haven't seen anything in the media (e.g., CNet) about this subject, whcih could be seen as a vey damaging quality-control scandal, so is it widespread or just hitting an unlucky few (e.g., everybody here)?

I just spoke with Apple on the phone since there is no Apple store in my area. First off, both advisors I spoke with were super nice (I had two because they thought I was in the US at first, but then I told them I was in Canada so I got switched). Secondly, I told them all of the issues I was having, which are as follows:

- Short battery life

- Hot phone

- Multiple Crash reports (can be found in diagnostics)

- Battery icon issue (would flip from plug to bolt multiple times quickly which signifies many micro charges)

Even while I was only on the phone with them for 17 minutes, it dropped almost 15% in battery (on 3G with LTE and Bluetooth both turned off)

They deemed it as being exactly what a battery SHOULD NOT be doing, set up an express repair (happy I bought AppleCare+ :D) and hopefully my new phone will be here soon.

Latest update - Been in contact with Apple Support today and with in a matter of 5 mins I had been given a new Order number, details on what to do regarding sending my current iPhone 5 back and a email stating "your new iPhone will be delivered in the next 3-5 days.

The kind lady mentioned that many people have reported the issue and even though Apple Tech are currently investigating the matter, they want customers to be happy so are sending out NEW phones.

I asked if they are all the same batch, I was put on hold and were given the answer NO, these are the second Batch of iPhones

My phone seem to be getting a little better after recharging from a dead battery last night. Right now I have 4 hours 16 minutes of usage and 12 hours 30 minutes of stand by and I'm at 15 percent battery remaining. That's way more than I got yesterday.
