I seriously think there is a charging hardware and software issue.

Ramone and Andrew i'm sorry for my bad english...

But if i understand well , you guys say its better to charge the Iphone via USB connected on computer ?

And it could be possible that is DOES matter how you plug in the mini connecter in the phone ?

    Hello Berberolly,

No it is not best to charge the iphone with the univeral serial bus port as this will not send the iphone the correct voltage and ampage of 5 volts and 1 amps and could ruin the calibration of the battery.

I know some may argue that the new lithium batterys do not depend on battery calibration but a universal serial bus always sends an output of 12 volts no matter what and that is too much. This will make it thinks its more charged than it actually is.

Also no the new 30 pin lightning adapter can not be affected by what angle you put it in, the port is universal and does not matter what way you attach the 30 pin adapter.

What a load of rubbish.  See

Hadn't yet determined if the DFU worked.  As I stated there were a few items that the sync had not restored prompting the restore from backup.  After I confirm I have everything I need I can perform the DFU reset option you provided.

    @Berberolly

Yes we seem to notice the phone lasts longer on battery life when charging through usb port on a computer or laptop GJWiphone is wrong. If we weren't supposed to charge these through usb on computers i think apple would have specified that. All I can say is give it a try and you will see for yourself. But make sure you charge it at least 1 hour past a full charege (when you see the plug icon in the battery symbol is when you know you have a full charge). As far as the reversable lightning cable i do believe there may be a hardware or software issue, whether its the chargers and the cable i can't proove it but i noticed when charging my i5 over night through the lightning cable and wall charger, when taking it off in the morning After about 5 mins use i quickly drop to 99% but if i turn off the phone then turn it back on it will go back to 100% and not drop to 99% until about 45mins of use. But this does not happen when i charge it with usb to a computer.

Things NOT to do to fix your extreme battery drain issue-

    -Restore/Restore in DFU mode

    -Turn off iCloud

    -Turn off all notifications

    -Turn off location services

    -Charge through a specific media

    -Lick your lightning port

These are usually a waste of time and an inconvenience.

It's a problem on Apple's end (probably software as iPhone 4s users get this problem) so while these temporary fixes may help add a bit of juice, most iPhone 5s will still drain abnormally with regular use.

Ofcorse ill let you know what you think. You sir , are onto something. I also discovered this a month ago , but  i didn't bother to share with anyone as i thought this was my own observation. But after 2 people saying this , i concur that there is definetly something to this.

I think alot of people here should try charging it via a usb port to see a difference. It was dropping less for some reason and seemed to go through the whole day without hiccups.

I did this only once and after which i started using the wall point to charge. The only reason being because using a usb port takes ages to charge and i dont have patience for this. Some might say leave it over night , but after i spoke to the Apple Customer Care they have said this. Over charging means killing your battery and Undercharging is making it worse. The opitimum time you should start charging your batter is anywhere between 8-20% . I believe this is true to a certain extent as this is a lithium batter. One thing i know about lithium batteries is you know overchage them cuz your reducing the cycle of the batter and neither should you let it drain out as its severely affects it. The only time when you can let it drain is when you obviously need to do a battery calibration.

a shout out to andrew and ramone who also noticed this

I can also believe this USB-PORT charging thing... I noticed that when i was charging my Iphone 3GS via the wall my adapter wasn't heating up but with the Iphone 5 the adapter gets hot when charging ...

I didn't charged with USB port yet but i charged my iphone yesterday with battery doctor on until the app said charging was done, i unplugged and immediately plugged in again and the app said i had to charge for 39min so i did.
this morning i woke up and still 98% of battery !!! The days before my battery drained 25% overnight, now only 2% ...

Next time i'm charging i'm going to charge when battery is >20% with USB port and keep you guys up to date

Left the IPhone unplugged last night with 25% battery.  It was dead this morning so a 30-40 minute charge using wall charger made it back to 25% before I left.  Dropped to 19% in 20 minutes.  It’s now charging on the USB port.

    Update to come.

i am not sure how you guys now think that the way you charge the phone results in different amounts of battery life..

i was always getting 4.5 hours usage and 8 hours standby on a battery no matter what, i switched my mail and calendar from exchange push to gmail fetch.. and now i get 6.5-7.5 hours usage.. and 15+ hours standby.

the bug is definitely in the exchange code when push is enabled..

i can now listen to mp3s in my car streaming on bluetooth audio all the way to work (25 minutes) and use just 1% battery... before I made the adjustments above it took 12% battery to make it to work.

i am still 100% sure it's software related, and has everything to do with the mail and calendar accounts.

I'm am going to have to debunk the theories that the mail accounts are what is killing the battery. I've deleted my mail accounts from the phone and the battery life is exactly the same. As stated be several people in this post, the best battery life I get is on wifi.

Gotta agree, ebrown.   I'm on wifi most of the day and have no problems with battery life.   8-10hrs usage times are easy for me to acheive.   When off wifi, I see the battery drain that everyone else is reporting.

As to the charging method, I think you "believers" need to prove this over an extended period of time.   I simply don't buy it at this point.

I remain convinced that this is a power management issue with the LTE/3G dual antenna system.   Whether or not firmware changes can fix it in my OPINION, is doubtful.   I think it would have been fixed already, if it were possible.   We'll know for sure soon, when iOS 6.1 is released.

What we have is an iPhone design that requires more power to operate, but with the same battery capacity as previous iPhone versions.   THAT, in my opinion, was APPLE's mistake.Insteady of making the i5 thinner, they should have left the thickness alone and increased battery capacity with that space.
