I don't understand how it is FB, because I have a number of family member who have working/valid phone numbers linked to their FB pages and I am still unable to sync them through the FB sync. My husband and I are having the exact problems but my son who just recently recieved the IPhone 4S was able to sync all of his friends and family memeber from his FB. So I don't think that it is FB I believe that it is the new IPhone 5/5c. Those are the phones that my husband and I just recently bought on the 9th of October of this year. So don't think that it is FB I believe that I is the phone itself.

This was intentional on Facebook's part, in an attempt to reduce the clutter in your contact list, they now try to guess which contacts are worth syncing, and which aren't. Unfortunately, they get it wrong a lot. There are a number of services that can fix this. I'll list two here, but a search on the app store for "facebook contact sync" yields a number of results. These two just seem to be the best.

1. http://www.sync.me - will add people's information from Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+. I use this, it's dead simple, and it works great for me.

2. Facedown - will download just get your contacts' photos from Facebook. Link: https://itunes.apple.com/pl/app/facedown/id391302938?mt=8

This was working for me... On two separate occasions when I Updated All Contacts, it pulled the FB information in for the contacts that I had entered @facebook.com email addresses for.

Unfortunately, it no longer seems to be working... I have entered the @facebook.com addresses for all the contacts in my iphone 5 (tedious, i know), however when I press the "Update All Contacts", it doesn't seem to work anymore. I simply get the "0 Contacts Updated" even though several contacts still need to pull that info from FB.

I see that this is roughly a year old post/question, but I'll share my feedback just for those who happen upon the same issue currently. To reiterate the issue that many are having is that their contacts within their iOS devices are no longer syncing with the corresponding Facebook account, so no photo update, no info update, even after integrating the native iOS Facebook "Update Contacts." The confusion of what is actually happening is a result of some actions Facebook has taken in attempting to make themselves a primary data source, where users interact with Facebook themselves, instead of what was happening previously in it being used as a sort of "dumb data locker" that other programs would sync to, similar to how one would use OSX Mail app to get their gmail instead of going directly to Gmail. If you are a Mac user you will probably see this in your Contacts app as Facebook being listed as a separate account from your lefthand dropdown list. So, how do we get around this and regain what we once had where our contacts update photo and other info? Well Facebook would like you to upload all of your contacts to your account. They have added this feature, that they very clearly admit, to "help" all users (even those who aren't your friends) find one another. Once you upload all your contacts to your Facebook account then you will once again have this "seamless syncing." Facebook also wants users to do this so they are more incline to use their Messenger app for their texting instead of SMS. I personally would not allow the uploading of all my personal contacts to Facebook, but if that is something that does not bother you then this will more than likely be an amazingly usefull feature for you. The other way is to manual edit all of your contacts to be sure to include the email address that they use to log into Facebook and that their names are the same in your contacts that they are on their Facebook account. Firstly unchecking the contacts box in the Facebook settings on your iOS device and then reenabling after making sure to edit these two items. Doing these two things will resolve most of your contacts syncing with Facebook, but not all. It seems to be hit or miss and most likely the contacts that do not sync nor update are the ones that either have recently changed their email access account on their Facebook or that they change their About info more frequently. Good Luck
