I can't login to my iCloud account after updating to mac os 10.8.2

I can't log in to my iCloud account on my iMac after updating to mac osx 10.8.2. I'm signed in to my iMac with administrator privilegs and receive an authentication window via iCloud system preferences - but login fails and starts over and over again. The login does not fail using the web-interface (www.icloud.com) or my iphone (ios 5.1.1). All contacts and calendar items on my mac are lost.

Any suggestions? Thanx!

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Hi, me again...

maybe it is better to ask for details: what do you mean by "completely log off"?

I don't have any iCloud-connection/account installed (the old ones for mail, calendar, ... are deleted) and every entry in the keychain related to iCloud is cleared.

As I try to log in via iCloud system preferences I still have this never ending loop. So: were to log off, if it is not possible to sign in? icloud.com?

Thanks in advance!

Well i don't know if it is the same situation. As i understand you don't have an account?

But in iCloud System Preferences I was actually able to see my account but it wouldn't let me login when i wrote the password. It just kept loadning. So i made a backup of my mail, calendar and contacts and then signed out of iCloud in the iCloud system preferences window like in the picture below.

I hope you find a solution.

Hmm, I do have two accounts (one for icloud, one for itunes and they both still work fine with icloud.com and the itunes store).

When the trouble came up (no connection with mail & ical, recognizing after updating to 10.8.2) I deleted the accounts to set them up again. At this momement I realised the real problem: no log in possible via icloud system preferences (loop). As I deleted the icloud-accounts in mail und ical I can't see any icloud-accounts via the email system preferences and it is not possible for me to create an new icloud mail/calendar account (no effect, without any log-in-loop).

So it seems to me that you are right: it is not the same situation 😟

However: thanks for sharing your ideas and expierences!

Ok, thanks to MMac00's comment I got it to work as well.

1. I deleted all passwords as suggested by Mahesh, though I am not sure that was necessary.

2. I clicked on 'sign out' on all my iCloud using devices. I had to agree to iCloud deleting all local copies of iCloud stored notes/reminders/etc.

3. I could now sign in on the 10.8.2 macbook pro without any problems, after that i signed in on my other devices as well.

hope this helps.

you lucky one... 😉

I just deleted my cookies from safari, noticed, that there still was one from icloud.com. But as I expected: non-effictive.

Made an interesting observation: using a wrong password with the correct user name (=apple id) leads to an error message (wrong apple id or password). Using the correct password my never ending story starts...

My conclusion: the account seems to be recognized (but what to do with this knowledge ...?!?).

I tried another workaround: I re-installed a time machine backup to go back to 10.8. Then I signed out iCloud and cut off all connections to my icloud-accounts. Did a simple test: re-signing to icloud was possible. Signed out again and deleted the related keychain entries.

Then I updated to 10.8.2 with a spark of hope that reconnecting to my icloud-account should work...

...guess, what happened? Grrr 😠.

Probably I will pass on this update. Cheers...

Guys, you need to be quick. ;-) First: My daughter had exactly the same issue (spinning wheel after entering the correct iCloud password). I couldn't figure out what was wrong, as the password she typed in was definitely the right one since login at www.icloud.com worked fine, as well es accessing e-mail inbox from witin Mail.app.

I don't remember how but I got the strong feeling that Photostream was causing the issue.

So, first of all I stopped the process Photostream (via activity monitor) and after that opened system preferences again. Now it's time to draw faster than your own shadow...

Watch all the entries in iCloud setting are being active for about one second before getting deactivated? Practice to quickly hit the check of "Photostream".

Switch back to the overview of system preference and click on "iCloud" again. QUICK - hit the check! 🙂 Did it? We we took away the check and the problem is gone!

If someone knows how to switch off this setting via terminal, please share it with us. Should be easier that way. But less fun. 😎

Same problem after 10.8.2 upgrade.

I "Signed Out" of iCloud -Systme Preferences, iCoud-did,did not keep any local copies of anything. I signed back in when prompted. Mail and other features now work as they should. I was also able to activate Back to my Mac without any issues.

This solved my problem.
