Poor Battery Life iPhone5

I've had my iPhone less than 24 hours and have noticed the battery life is being depleted at a much higher rate than what I consider normal. This morning turned on my phone after turning it OFF last night and connected to the charger all night.

I adjusted some settings to match my iPhone 4 added PW's to some app's. After about 20 minutes of playing with my phone the power level dropped from 100% to 92%...no calls.

Anyone else notice poor battery life issues.........or do you thing that's normal?

Symptoms:

- Rapid battery drain (100% to dead in 20 hours on standby)

- 'Usage' and 'Standby' times reported as almost the same even when the phone was on complete standby in airplane mode

Solution:

For me, the problem was a bug in the 'Settings' app. Whenever I had the app running in the background, the symptoms listed above would appear. Exiting the app from the background fixed everything. 'Usage' and 'Standby' times are now accurate and the battery drain isn't excessive. The picture shows statistics after the fix:

I was having the same problem, go to bed with 75% batt life, wake up with like 45%. I immediatly called Rogers. Tech support told me to restore the phone again, so i did and it works fine now.

when i first got my phone i did a restore from my iphone 4 to my new iphone 5. THIS IS THE NEW STEP IF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM>>> after restoring the i4 to the i5. BACK UP THE iphone5, then restore it again using that fresh back up.

for me that fixed the problem, hope that helps everyone. my battery % life barely moves now, i think its dropped 2 % in the last 3 hours, with maybe 10 minutes of surfing and 30 minutes of music with screen OFF.

The first day I got the phone i noticed it going fast. I did factory restore and this is what i got. Though if i use the internet the battery drops quite quickly. If i didn't go online i probably could have easily gone 4 or 5 days standby. but apple does state being on internet for about 8 hours... so i keep lte and wifi off unless i really need it. I listen to music every night for an hour or 2, text during the day, few phones calls about 2hours total, light web surfing.

I leave all notifications off, i dont have a lot of apps. I have location services off. Nothing running in the background. Everytime i am done using something i click home button twice and close it out of the multitask bar. I'll check back here for any questions and to let you all know how second full charge does.

I do know that you can ruin your battery if charge before phone gets to at least 20% the lowest. And if you take the phone off charger before it is done, also locks memory which then your next full charge is not as high. So if you are going to charge it, wait till below 20% and let it go all the way then pull off the charger. Don't jump around place to place trying to get as much of a charge as you can while you are on the go. It will save your battery in the long run so it can hold the charge.

Guys, I just replaced my iPhone 5 a week back. Must tell you all that I am convinced that there could be a batch defect. My phone is giving out a much better charge retain life even with all notifications / LTE /data / iCloud backup etc kept ON all the time. I was considering a shift to Nokia Lum 920.

Apple should have considered to test this new version properly before release or conducted rigorous QC. Also there are so many online phone specialists who could be deployed to test before launch. Employees generally get complacent over time and miss out such crucial aspects which might hurt the brand.

I will continue to post if anything new crops up.. Bye for now.

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this has been posted, but I'm not reading back through 18 pages! After a bit of research online, I tried a few and found the below has greatly enhanced my iPhone 5's battery life:

1. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

2. Let your battery drain completely

3. Charge overnight

This will not delete data or media, just things like your home/lock screen picture, passwords etc.

The problem seems to be only affecting those who restore their new iPhone 5 from a previous iPhone in iCloud/iTunes. This will of course be the majority of users!

Hope this helps!

Matt

What kind of useage are you getting now?

After going through 3 iphone 5's now (1 black that was returned due to the case being damaged out the box and 2 white returned for heating up and draining battery quickly) I am now on my 4th iphone after filling up my iphone 4 memory.

So far I'm on my third full discharge and recharge cycle and as I type this I have 6% battery and usage is 6hrs 57 mins and standby is 17 hours and 12 mins.

just wondering how this compares to other users battery life.

The usage hasn't been anything intensive. Few phone calls. Lots of texts, Downloading apps, playing a few games.

It has all been on wifi though.

I had awful battery problems with my iphone 5 after the new update... My battery would go from 100% to about 35% within 5 hours, where all of my previous iphones would last me days with the same amount of usage. I took it to the apple store in hopes of a new phone, but they ran a diagnostic test and said my software was corrupted, saved everything to icloud and did a complete reset of my phone, deleting EVERYTHING. Started iphone as a new phone and uploaded everything from icloud, which saved every single setting and app I had (completely surprised, thought I would have to tweek everything again) and as of the first 3 hours this morning, I am still at 100% battery. Maybe this is a defect and my battery is always going to say 100% and still drain completely, or maybe they fixed it......... Just an FYI for everyone out there... hard reset may have worked

not alone, I have three iPhone 5 just activated as new phones, then updated via iTunes connected computer...not from iCloud backups... ALL three phones eat thru their battery life very quickly ie with 40 min talk time, 2 hour usage and 12 hr standby they all go down to the 25% or less range ... as soon as I recharge they ALL lose 15% in less than 20 minutes ... lose 50% in 5 hours of little use, mostly standby .... I had this same problem when I originally bought the Evo 3d and it was only solved when the carrier changed the batteries ... unfortunately apple batteries can only be replaced by. technician ....

anyone with similar experiences?
