Poor Battery Life iPhone5

I've had my iPhone less than 24 hours and have noticed the battery life is being depleted at a much higher rate than what I consider normal. This morning turned on my phone after turning it OFF last night and connected to the charger all night.

I adjusted some settings to match my iPhone 4 added PW's to some app's. After about 20 minutes of playing with my phone the power level dropped from 100% to 92%...no calls.

Anyone else notice poor battery life issues.........or do you thing that's normal?

My iPhone 5 battery works amazingly. I used it for about 10 minutes and still had 100% battery remaining. Although another thing I do it I close all my apps, except for the ones i'm currently using. The apps still running drain your battery. Click your home button 2 times, and hold your finger down on one of the apps in the little bar, they will start to shake. Click the red x at the right corner of the app. This will close the app, so it won't run anymore. Saves your battery (: Hope this works for you!

I think it may have something to do with Chrome as well. My iPhone 5 battery was working fine the first 6 months I have owned it, then about a week ago Chrome requested an app update. Since then my battery life is draining like crazy - especially overnight. If it's not plugged in overnight it will go from over 75% charged to draining all the way and shutting itself down - not a good thing when you expect the alarm to wake you up. May be a coincidence, but I just deleted the Chrome app and will post again results. I have been a big fan of Chrome up until this point on all other platfroms but this will change my mind immediately if in fact Chrome is the problem.

I turned everything off except the cell--and I have not received any calls. It's dropping a percent every 7-10 minutes. This is unacceptable and APPLE needs to fix the issue. Thought they sold high end but they have slipped on this one and now I am rethinking that desktop; probably won't upgrade my IPAD, my IPOD or my MacAIr.

I do not like being taken advantage of and I resent having to become a cell technician to try to fix a $600 phone that was supposed to make my life easier.

Maybe Apple is a "used to be" because their genius is slipping sadly!

Everyone!! My husband figured out what causes this!!

It happens because when you transfer over your contact list one or two don't transfer correctly. So when your phone goes and cheks for updates or emails the phone is constantly being sent a "new" contact information. The phone is being "pushed" to accept the "new" email update. This causes the phone to constantly be running stuff in the back ground that you can"t see and drains the battery continuously! The settings need to be changed from the "push/ recieve/ flex mode.

I don't know how else to explain this but I'm telling you if you get a techie to help you change it everything will be back to normal battery life!

P.S. It's really difficult to figure out which contact is updating, don't bother driving yourself crazy trying to figure it out. Just change the setting.

Hi guys, i am new to apple. currently have the I phone 5 and yeah at first i did face huge battery problems but thats is basically because i didnt know much about this phone. Big gadget fan here. Anyways about the battery problem, i think i have the solution here. You all have to remember that this is a very powerful phone and with the size that it comes in, i dont think a small battery will be able to provide the necessary juice, But there is a solution. I get upto 14 hrs of battery life and on an average up to 12 hrs. OK this is what you need to do.

only keep the notications you see often, on like whatsapp, viber, messenger. and what not. switch of Siri and only switch it on when you have to use it for something. mails and other things all manual. now this is this the main part that drains out your battery, try as far as possible not to switch off the phone from the power button which is on the top. for this put on the automatic swicth off and set it for 1 minute. that is it!! trust me it will work. after you set this, let the battery come to red and charge it for like 4-5 hrs. by the next day everything should be fine.

Remember, DO NOT USE THE POWER BUTTON TO SWITCH OFF AFTER USE, LET IT SWITCH OFF ON ITS ON. also use, in the accessability the gesture app to usw your phone.

after trying this out, get back to me and tell me if this works for you all.

I was ready to throw the my iphone 5 away, the battery life was so appalling.

Last night while testing another sim card in my handset, I was required to do a full backup and restore via itunes.

This process along with turning off cellular data has made an enormous difference.

Battery would normally be completely drained after 5 hrs. Today its still at 72% after 7 hrs. Much happier now.

In my iPhone 5 I open Skype in 25% of battery and after 5 seconds its go off. I receive 3-4 calls a day with everything switched off and the battery hold only 15-18 hours. The think is if I need to have all application close… Wi-Fi…..services… its better to have a nokia for 20 euro with 4-6 days battery;)

In my opinion the company must fix this problems for so expensive phone or make a logical price! Maybe open support with offer to change bat for low price….

Thank you

the battery life has definitely got significantly worse between generations.

My last Iphone was a 3GS; a game I played on that phone, after 30 min would drop it to 95%. This is without previous knowledge of being able to manually shut down applications. For all I know, I had every app on my phone running in the background on my 3GS.

Playing that same game on the Iphone 5 WITH all the applications shut down drops the battery drops to 65% in 20 min. I'm not sure where Apple gets off claiming the battery is more efficient because it clearly isn't.

i had same problem and tried apparenlty everything including not using phone and it still drained in 4 hours. What solved it for me was not updating the carrier settings when doing the restore from backup. I tried re-restoring 3 times and had battery problems and then opted to not update carrier settings when it asked me to and this seems to have worked. I don't know enough about it to explain why. for some reason also, the apps hadn't been sinking properly when I had set up the new phone on the three previous attempts and they are now.
