Poor Battery Life iPhone5

I've had my iPhone less than 24 hours and have noticed the battery life is being depleted at a much higher rate than what I consider normal. This morning turned on my phone after turning it OFF last night and connected to the charger all night.

I adjusted some settings to match my iPhone 4 added PW's to some app's. After about 20 minutes of playing with my phone the power level dropped from 100% to 92%...no calls.

Anyone else notice poor battery life issues.........or do you thing that's normal?

I had the same problem on my 3GS and on my iPad, as soon as I upgraded to ios 6. I was so frustrated I Googled 'downgrading to 5.1.1' and found some instructions. I followed these but unfortunately, the phone restored with io6 again. However it completely cured the short battery life problem. I have done the same on the iPad, with the same results.

I had originally upgraded through iTunes and so had a very recent backup. This is important if you are going to try this.

So what were the steps that you followed to reinstall iOS 6? The only thing that I've tried but have not been successful with so far is erasing everything on the phone manually by going into the settings on the phone. If there's a way that I can re-download and reinstall iOS 6 completely and not just an erase, I would love to try that.

These were the instructions. Although it refers to ios6 Beta, it applies to the release version.

If you went ahead and installed iOS 6 beta and determined the buggy nature of the first developer release isn’t for you, it’s time to downgrade. Most developers should know how to do this already, but if not this process is easy and you’ll be back to running iOS 5.1.1 in no time at all.

Downgrading is identical on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

  1. Turn the device off, connect it to the computer via USB, and launch iTunes
  2. Place the iOS device into DFU mode: with the device off, hold down the Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds then release the power button, continue holding Home button until iTunes notifies you of a device in recovery mode being detected. The devices screen should stay black as if turned off.
  3. Restore within iTunes through either method a or b:
    • a: Restore from the iOS 5.1.1 backup you made prior to installing iOS 6 beta
    • b: Restore to iOS 5.1.1 IPSW by Option-Clicking the “Restore” button, and then restore from iCloud backup when finished
  4. Let iTunes restore back to iOS 5.1.1, the device will reboot when finished

Let me know if you have issues.

These steps will restore your phone to the latest version of ios 6. The instructions were put out when 5.1.1 was the latest signed release. However that's now been replaced with ios 6 and so you will not get 5.1.1.

You can either continue to restore from a backup afterwards, through iTunes or just stop with your 'factory' fresh iphone

I've disabled LTE on mine and will use it like I normally do throughout the day to see if it goes any better.

I initially was doubting that LTE may have had anything to do with it because here in Brisbane, we only have one provider with LTE (which I am on) however we only have coverage in major areas. I was noticing my battery life was pretty bad at home which is a 3G area only with no overlap of LTE so I figured the phone would have been sitting on 3G without using much power for the LTE related components (just the occasional check or thereabouts).

It could possibly be that the phone may be trying to check for available LTE connection more than it should or something along those lines? I don't know. Just some thoughts. I guess I'll see how this pans out today.
