Time Machine Slow on Lion 10.7.5

Time machine keeps saying it's preparing and it's going on for ages, when it finally gets going there's only a couple of Gig to do but it's just taking forever. The drive is connected via USB and was OK till I went from OS 10.7.4 to 10.7.5.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5), 3.4Ghz (16GB Ram) Intel Core i7

Cautiously optimistic.

Just installed the update and so far so good. mds and mdworker processes are getting plenty of CPU time to rebuild the Spotlight indices, where they did not before the update. I'm down to 34 minutes remaining on indexing (as opposed to weeks or months) and the progress bar keeps moving.

Haven't kicked off a Time Machine backup yet. Keeping fingers crossed.

Hi all

I also had major problems with the 10.7.5 which effected my time machine back ups and spotlight indexing.

I resinstalled 10.7.4 last with a time machine back up (took 4.5 hours!) and now my mac is back to 10.7.4 and working fine... EXCEPT the time machine is still incredibly slow and not working as it should. I have tried the terminal commands that have been suggested for this issue but it hasn't done antything!

for now, unless anyone has for sure fixes, I'll wait until Apple hopefully sort this out, but it's been a major nightmare whilst I'm in the middle of 4 film scores! Not amused!!!

Hi again- thanks for this.

I actually reinstalled 10.7.4 last night (as I explained in my post) so can I just double check with you (one more time- sorry!) that if I use Software Update to install 10.7.5 this has now been fixed and i won't need to go to the App store to get the fix. I just need to use the software update? Yes?

THANKS!

You'll need both updates: the 10.7.5 and the "supplemental." The new one is quite small, and does not include the basic 10.7.5.

Software Update or the App Store will show you both. I suspect it will show only the 10.7.5 update first, then, after it's applied, the supplemental.

Or get them directly:

Lion 10.7.5: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1583

Lion 10.7.5 supplemental Update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1599

You can download them both first, but install 10.7.5 before installing the supplemental.

This worked for me!

Before this, my backup ran all day and got as far as 9 of 20GB and seemed to stall in that range for a long time. This was a relatively new problem. I had done many back-ups in the months preceding, without delay, so I guess it was an update that caused the problem...?

Thanks for the advice.
