ios 6 and Alpine iDA-X305

Has anyone tried using the iPhone 5 or an older iPhone with ios 6 on an Alpine iDA-X305 head unit? Any issues? Also wondering if the Lightning connector coupled with the 30 pin adapter has had any problems interfacing with Alpine radios.

Thanks for all the info about this.

Was worried about updating my 4S to iOS6. I knew from my parents 3GS phones they had issues with some charge and sync cables not working anymore after they updated. And was worried about my iDA-X305S not working anymore with my 4S after updating. Now I can even upgrade to a 5 or later one if a new one is out before I upgrade.

Thanks Again Everyone.

Hi

I have a headunit of ICA-W502E with the KCE-400BT adaptor, but mine wont connect via Bluetooth. I have turned my phone off and on, turned the bluetooth on an of on my phone, but everytime i try to connect to the bluetooth, it just keeps saying Failed on the Headunit and on my phone comes up with that its not in range?

It worked fine with my iphone 4s on iOS6 but not the iphone 5.

any ideas?

thanks

Amanda

I understand the 30pin adapter will help with physical connectivity, however, I have a iDA-X305S head unit and since moving to an iPhone 5 my phone does not stay paired with the head unit. I have to pair everytime I get in the car. Security setting I'm missing in iOS? I've always initiated the pairing from the phone. Is there a way to do it from the head unit, and get it to remember my phone? The phone remembers the head unit. Am I making any sense? ;-)

iphone 5 with iOS 6.1. Have KCE400BT connected to IVA-D800e. Has been working like a dream since I got it all installed appox 4 months ago. Yesterday, unit decided it did not want to bluetooth pair. Hit "forget device" to unpair the phone fromt the bluetooth, now it simply will not re-pair. Have tried everything - power cycling, hard reset of the head unit, hard reset of the phone. It simply says "searching" on the headunit, but cannot find my iphone.

Does anyone have any ideas? Driving around without bluetooth for my calls is very very annoying! 😟

Sounds like most got this figured out using the Apple adapter, but I have another question on a related topic. I've recently begun to use Spotify Premium, and have been using it through my iDA x305 via my iPhone 5 w/ the latest version of iOS 6. At the time of my post, this is just before iOS 7 is coming out, for a frame of reference. While streaming Spotify, the HU automatically goes to the iPod source, however, changing it to the Pandora source allows me to listen. The problem is that I get very poor sound quality in doing this. When actually streaming Pandora through that Pandora Link app, the sound quality is fine, but streaming Spotify seems to be causing this issue. At mid volume levels, the bass sounds terrible, so it kind of defeats the purpose of using this service. I understand Spotify used to have an EQ built into it, but that is no longer accessible to help resolve this issue. Has anybody encountered this issue, and if so, were you able to resolve it?

As of 9/21/2012, Alpine products verified not compatible with the iPhone 5 are:

Issue: No iPod / iPhone Music over USB

Models Effected: INE-S920HD, INE-Z928HD, IVE-W535, iDAX305S, iDA-X305, iDA-X100, and iDA-X001

We will continue to update you regarding compatibility

According to that ^^ it would seem Alpine intended to address the problem. But I can't find it anywhere, and my iDA-X305 has been unable to talk to my last 2 iPhones, and we are on iOS 8+ now? My iDA-x305 worked with my iPhone(s) for about 6 months total of the last 3+ years. I'm seriously wondering why Apple would consider partnering with Alpine on CarPlay when the "best" solution in the past appears to be to bypass the USB interface and buy a bluetooth module that bypasses the USB protocols completely.

Just in case anyone reads BadlandZ post and dismisses the 305 option. I have a iDA-X305 that I have used with iPhone from the original iPhone through each model to currently 6plus with every release of iOS over that time frame. There was a momentary panic when the connectors changed to lightning but the 30pin to lightning adaptor fixed that. Mine is still in use every day without issue. I have done nothing special but use the Alpine provided cable not a generic or Apple USB cable. You have to connect via the USB cable not the iPod adaptor cable. My phone charges, p[lays music, displays album art and also interrupt playback for navigation prompts from the iPhone. I also have a bluetooth adaptor which lets me interact with my iPhone via SIRI as well as take and make calls. This is an old thread that i stumbled on looking for some other information but thought it worth providing a response to the "it doesn't work" final message in the thread.

prbarnard and others,

Help me better understand, I'm trying to recreate your configuration with my phone and it's causing me great frustration.

iDA-X305 -> original usb cable -> original usb-to-30pin -> authentic 30pin-to-lightning -> iphone 6 with ios8

I've also tried it with my ipad air and no luck.

It does work with an older ipad that has the 30pin plug.

Tried resetting the headunit and phone at least a few times with no luck.

Also tried removing the headunit and pluging in the apple 30pin cable and using the apple 30pin-to-ligning adapter with no luck.

It must have the alpine usb extension and original usb-to-30pin to work.

Pictures/video would help, also any specific configurations inside the headunit or other areas I might be overlooking?

Oct 20, 2015 10:53 PM in response to d.One

d.One - yes this is exactly the configuration I have

iDA-X305 -> Alpine supplied usb cable (the one that screws into the back of the 305 and has a USB socket on the end) -> The short Alpine supplied usb to 30pin cable -> an Apple 30pin to lightning adaptor (I have used both the integrated plug version and the short cable version) -> iPhone (I have use iPhone 5, 5s, 6 and 6 plus).

This has worked with all versions of iOS since the introduction of the iPhone5 and has worked with my iPhone6plus and my wife iPhone6 on each iOS release since first release of the 6. I'm currently on iOS9 per the latest upgrade.

This configuration works without issue on my system

I'm fitting a new Amp to the system next week and will try to remember to take a photo(s) to add to the thread. I will also copy out my config but I don't recall changing anything when switching from using early iPhone/iPod to the lightning based versions.
