ios 6 and Alpine iDA-X305

Has anyone tried using the iPhone 5 or an older iPhone with ios 6 on an Alpine iDA-X305 head unit? Any issues? Also wondering if the Lightning connector coupled with the 30 pin adapter has had any problems interfacing with Alpine radios.

I finally came up with a cost-effective solution;

£40 for a Nano with a faulty screen, from eBay 🙂

Saves having to buy a lightning adaptor, will still work on the Bose dock in the kitchen, I can drag music onto it from any computer without erasing the other content first and I'm not going to be bothered about leaving it in the car permanently

iPhone still works via bluetooth for calls, and can be charged from cigarette lighter if need be.

Win/win

Cheers

I don't listen to much in need of continuation as it's mainly either 30 minute radio comedies or tunes

As my commute is 35 minutes minimum, having the iPod left in the car works great.

Unfortunately, due to internet speeds at home, all my downloading is done at work, so syncing my phone also involves shuttling downloads home on an external drive, so the iPod's drag/drop setup works great for me.

Shame they don't incorporate multi-computer manual management onto iPhones 😢

One thing to keep in mind that I failed to do. If you have a case, the lightning adapter might not fit. I may cut down my case to make it fit since it is rubberized if I cannot find one that will work online. Otherwise it works fine.

As for the people with the Error 03, this happens to me at random. I have had it happen to my 3G, 4, and iPad 2. The way I have gotten around it is to disconnect the device, remove the face, restart the vehicle, add the face, then plug in the device. Seems to always work for me. If I reset, that works too but you have to reset the clock and a ton of other stuff. For whatever reason it will not keep all of my user settings and I have to redo the bass and treble settings but is will keep loudness and some others. It's weird.

A lot of great discussion here. But I need to get a definitive answer on compatibility of the Alpine IDA-X305s, KCE-400BT and iPhone 5 with iOS 6.

If you use the Alpine cable supplied with the 305s and the Apple 30 to 9 pin adapter do I get music playback AND playlists/track information/cover art on the 305s display?

Using bluetooth on the 400BT, can I get music playback? Can I get playlist/track info/cover art on the 305s?

Thanks

Yes to all.

I can't say for certain on this, but the BT workes for my 250BT but that does not support streaming only calls. To my knowledge you will not get album art at all through BT streaming, this is a product of the technology not the head unit. I am not even sure you will get track info or anything other than the display showing "streaming". Which is what I get with a different BT setup in my wife's Navigator and iPhone5.

I purchased the Lightning to 30-pin adapter (0.2m) from Apple and plugged it in to the existing Alpine 30 pin connector that was installed 2 years ago with my IDA-X305. Presto! It works perfectly with music, menus, album art, menus, and even routing Maps voice or iHeart Radio to the head unit. It's been two weeks. I did have to restart my iPhone 5 initially for some reason to get iHeart Radio to not take over every time I plugged it in. But since then it's been exactly like the iPhone 4 experience.

I chose the 0.2 meter to avoid the problem of the iPhone case not clearing the Lightining connector.

That's great news, I just cant wait for my Iphone 5 to arrive.

I have IDA-X305S

Today I read an update from Alpine:

Update Post 12/5/12

Alpine products listed below work fine with iPhone 5 but require the use of the existing Alpine cable in combination with the Apple Lightning to 30-pin adapter. We have verified that this combination works (with the exception of video).

Talking about Spotify, I have several problems when connected by USB: I can't skip the tracks using unit button, the length of the songs is not correct, the song name doesn't match with the song that is playing... do you know how to fix this?

Thanks.
