Turn by Turn directions no voice using Bluetooth

I've got an 4S running IOS6. Maps works, Siri works, sound works. Turn by turn directions work over the phone but not when Blue Tooth is turned on. The other Blue tooth functions work fine in my car, a 2010 Ford Flex with a built in GPS system. Any suggestions?

This problem is NOT fixed in 6.1. My experience is the same as others. Google Maps works with car audio, Apple Maps does not. Setting Maps to use the car audio only results in turning off turn by turn audio altogether. What happened to the days when Apple would only ship programs once they worked reasonably well? This problem with car audio has nothing to do with the absence of Google's map data, it is simply the result of sloppy work by Apple.

Just got mine to work! Best thing ever! I was using an old 1st Gen iPhone as my music player conected via usb into Kenwood unit with Bluetooth. My 4S (OS 6.1) was paired over Bluetooth, Siri and phone coversations would use cars audio system but not map directions. My solution was to connect my 4S directly to the Kenwood via USB and play music thru the cars system using the Music App on the 4s. Gave Siri some directions and yes indeed music faded out and directions were relayed over the cars speakers and once she was done music faded back in!

Thank you! It worked!

I made the changes to my 2012 Ford Edge SYNC: I changed the input source on the car's audio system to Bluetooth and it works great!

BUT, usually I like to listen to Books on CD, from my MP3 player, which works in the In Line input mode...so now I have to go back and forth, but it's only a few clicks away.

EXCEPT if someone knows of an easy, automatic way to change the input source?

Thank you again, Tgara.

If we are still talking about iPhone and Ford Sync:

It is the same problem with Apple AND Google Maps: No sound...BUT, you can do two things:

One is to turn OFF your iPhone's Blue Tooth option. You can get the sound thru your iPhone (not thru your cars radio) and all works well...but then you cannot use your "hands free" option that you love about your Ford Sync/Bluetooth.

So here is the OTHER option: Set your type of source in your car/sync system.

Hit Aux, then Menu, then Sync-Media, hit OK

Now scroll down until you see "Select Source", hit OK

Now scroll down to "Bluetooth Audio" Hit OK

You are ready to roll, with the sound of your Map programs coming thru your car stereo! The same goes for your Pandora app...nice music thru your Ford Sync/car stereo! AND your 'hands-free' options works great!!

Problem: Once you turn your car OFF, the whole arrangement goes out and it reverts back to the default: "LINE IN". The geniuses at Sync told me that they are aware of the 'problem' but they do not plan to have an option like make this MY DEFAULT! Not anytime soon they told me!! Who's paying those morons? Us, the paying customers!

I found one way to get around this: Just before you are ready to turn your motor off, SHUT OFF your radio. Most of the time it remembers the last setup you had your SYNC on...but sometimes it does not remember it!

So here we have two giants like Apple and Ford Motor/Sync and they expect (?) guys like us to resolve their problems! Is that great or what?

Anyway, if you guys out there test it and it works for you, please let me know. I'm ready to pick up my new Ford Edge with lots of new bells and whistles :-)

I have an iPhone 4 and Google maps. I have been able to get bluetooth voice to work on my car stereo (2012 VW Passat TDI SE, with the RCD 510, premium 8 radio) - BUT

it is vey erratic. Some times it works flawlessly, inturupting whatever is playing on the radio, other times not. In fact, sometimes just with the the bluetooth connction on for hands-free phonecals, no sound from Google maps!

So frustrating!

I have found that the turn by turn directions will work on the car radio thru Bluetooth ONLY if my car radio bluetooth is set to "iPod." It does not work at all thru bluetooth when I have the radio on, even though blue tooth works fine for phone calls while I am listening to the radio.

I called Apple about this and they told me it must be my car radio and I should call my car manufacturer because no one else had reported the problem and everyone who complains about it in these discussions is just mistaken. Not the kind of Apple support that used to be provided in the good old days.

Does the Maps App work with other devices? As of this moment, you have one situation where the App & the secondary device are not working together. You need to try a different third-party device, one that is supposed to work properly with the Maps App. Or, you try a different iPhone with the car radio. You need something to compare the base situation to in order to figure out which is causing the problem.
