Keyboard shortcut not working

Noticed after the os upgrade, the keyboard shortcuts are not working. Is this a known issue and is there a solution?

I just did a hard reset and it fixed my problem, but it took two hard resets. The first one got the short cuts working again, but the settings app crashed when I tried deleting a duplicate short cut that showed up after the reset. I had to add a new short cut then do another hard reset to be able to delete the duplicate short cut without crashing the settings app.

Thanks for the solution. My short cuts finally work and I can add and delete like I should be able to.

I have iPhone 4, and a couple months ago my keyboard shortcuts stopped working. I am just now researching it, I had been thinking Apple would fix it, so I waited.

Actually, my keyboard shortcuts still work occasionally (I keep trying them), but 90% of the time they don't work.

I have read the solutions above, but just don't want to implement them. Why should I have to? It's too much trouble, it may not work anyway, and even if it works, it could be wiped out by an update from Apple.

Why can't Apple fix this? I am on an apple.com forum, but I don't see any solutions from Apple. Stupid.

Crappy software.

This is what I did step by step and it worked like a charm... I had an iPhone 4 when I did this a few days ago. I have documents and data ON in iCloud...

1. write down or take screenshots of all existing shortcuts

2. delete all shortcuts

3. backup to iCloud (I think this clears all shortcuts you have stored in iCloud)

4. go back to settings-->general-->keyboard... You may notice one or a few generic shortcuts pop up on their own. The one that popped up for me was OMW (on my way)

5. re enter all of your shortcuts and phrases

6. when done, back up again to iCloud (stores your new shortcuts)

I restarted my phone. Shortcuts still worked. I just got a 4S and restored from the iCloud backup mentioned in step 6 and my shortcuts worked on my new phone.

Good Luck. I hope this helps everyone.

Everyone, I battled with this issue for months. And finally after updating to 6.1.3 I'd had enough. After multiple attemtps to fix it with the advice given here, restoring to a clean version of iOS, deleting all my shortcuts, etc., etc., I've finally fixed it.

The issue pertains to iCloud. On your iDevice, tap on settings>iCloud. Delete the account. When prompted, delete all the data from the iPhone. ITS OK, it will still be in iCloud.

Then, go to www.icloud.com and sign in. Click on iWork. Save all important files to your local machine, and delete all documents from iCloud. Then sign back into your iCloud accounts on all affected iOS devices. Your keyboard shortcuts should now work flawlessly.

Somehow, a file I'd saved in iCloud was corrupt, and screwing up all the "Documents & Data" syncing function of iCloud.

Since doing this, all is well.

Ok, I think I figured it out. Bare with me, I have had iPad for a few years but recently got iPhone and have NEVER posted on a forum but you never know, I could be helping someone out.

I would assume when you type in shortcut that you would then click on the phrase that pops up above the shortcut. I could be wrong but thinking most people would think the same. So, after reading all the posts and trying everything everyone suggested, it still didnt work.

Well, I happen to type in the shortcut and then PRESS THE SPACE BUTTON and voila, it works!!! I have the most updated ios 6.1.3. Hopefully this will help someone.

I had this problem and seemed to have solved it. In my case, it was somehow a glitch caused by syncing between my ios devices. I deleted iCloud from both devices. Just to be sure, I did a factory restore to my iPhone (my iPad didn't have this problem, but until I deleted its iCloud, nothing worked), and I did NOT restore the backup. I downloaded my apps again and they're working!

I guess Reset Documents & Data worked for me. More detailed:

  1. Visit iCloud.com on any web browser that can access those Apple web apps like Mail, Contacts, Calendar. Click the user name on upper-right corner, then "Account Settings", "Advanced", "Reset Documents & Data".
  2. Restart all iOS devices. Then wait. (For me, I'm leaving the Shortcuts page open and visiting this forum, after about three minutes a shortcut popped up, and problems solved right after that point. Now I can add/remove shortcuts as it should be, and don't have to turn off sync of Documents & Data.)
