Why is my iPhone5 battery draining so fast, worse than my iphone4?

My phone seems to be loosing battery really quickly. It came only slightly charged but I have since fully charged it and notice it drains much faster than my iPhone 4. Is anyone having similar issues? Frustrating!

I have replaced my iPhone 5 32gb 2 times now so using my third unit typing this and battery dropped from 40% to 38% now. I have tested ALL "fixes" there is out there on all my three units but the problem is persistent (37%) and I really do not know what to do.

On the first unit I updated to 6.0.2

Second unit was running 6.0.1 and I didn't update to se if the problem persisted and it did.

Third unit was running 6.0 and I didn't update to see if the problem persisted and it did.

I have done all kind of resets, restores (36%), calibrating etc etc etc and still same problem. Now my patients has ran out and the people at the Apple Genius Bar will have to deal with a very unhappy customer.

I have used iPhone since the first model and this is by far the worst iPhone I have owned. Not just that, the (35%) housing of the phone doesn't take anything. Even the smallest thing with the lightest touch will put scratches on it.

Really bad Apple, really BAD!!!!

iPhone 5, 32GB, iOS 6.0.1

I've monitored the usage.

WIFI is able to reach 8 hours and above upon usage.

However, the biggest issue here is 3G.

3G usage tested, 1% decrease every 2 minute usage, that means browsing FB / Safari. In this case, I can only benefit 3 hours of usage on 3G when my battery reach 15-20%. On paper, it was 8 hours on 3G.

In addition, during standby with 3G enable, 1% decrease every 9 minute.

*Please note that i have none iCloud account, location services off, notification off, no Navigation use during the testing period. Plainly just whatsapp, instagram, FB, Safari, Summly*

Me and two of my collegues are experienceing exactly the same thing.

As mentioned earlier i have replaced my iPhone unit 2 times and the third time i sat down with a person at the Genious bar and tested the phone side to side with a iPhone 4 and once on the 3G network min drain 3 times faster than his iPhone 4 that was 2 years old.

The we did the test side by side with one of the workers iPhone 5 and after 10 min usage i the guy at the Genious bar replied " I havnt really though of it but it seems that mine has the same issue, the battery is pretty bad" 🙂

So in the end they just said that i probably should wait of the next iOS update and see it it gets better, if not i should come back.

So i just wanted to update on what ha happend.

I got my iPhone 5 replaced fot the 3rd time yesterday, the guys at the Genious Bar are the best, headup to them. They did a systemcheck and battery showed up beeing fine, however the statistics showed 0 usage (verry odd)

So for this unit is beahving quite ok compared to my previous ones.

This is how i did it.

1. Set it up as a new phone in iTunes.

2. Updated to iOS 6.1

3. Restored from my most recent backup from the previous phone.

4. Charged it up to 100%.

This is the performance after the first Charge.

Now the phone is at 9%

Standby: 20 Hours, 40 Minutes

Usage: 6 Hours, 50 Minutes (Spotify, Some video, Gaming, Facebook and webbrowsing)

Talktime: 1 Hour, 35 Minutes

Data: Sent: 3.8Mb and Received 154Mb

My previous phones would have been dead less then a third of these numbers. I will update if i see any improvements from now on.

I had an I phone 4 that one day just started losing battery very quickly. I just replaced it with an I phone 5 and it is doing the same thing. I am so confused now by so many complaints about the same thing. I know one other person that is having problems. I have 2 weeks to return and am thinking maybe I should trade it back in. Any suggestions for a better alternative?? I can't even keep it charged for 10 hrs not even using it!

Brightness on an iPhone is known to drain battery life. It will drain a lot quicker with it all the way up, will drop half as much with it half way, and so on. I always have the brightness on my iPhone 5 all the way down unless I am outside, in the sun. Phone lasts me maybe 12+ hours, depending on how much I use it. Try turning the brightness all the way down and see if you see a change? Also, turn locations off, turn Wi-Fi off when you're out and about, close all background apps if you aren't using them, and disable Push for emails. I have Push enabled but that is entirely up to you. Hope this helped.
