Why is my iPhone5 battery draining so fast, worse than my iphone4?

My phone seems to be loosing battery really quickly. It came only slightly charged but I have since fully charged it and notice it drains much faster than my iPhone 4. Is anyone having similar issues? Frustrating!

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Everything was fine then on a Wednesday night the battery started draining fast without any usage. Fast enough that my phone with zero usage of any kind drained completely in 4 1/2 hours. I did everything that people posted in this thread to help extend my battery life, which only helped a little bit. I was forced to carry my charger with me everywhere i went.

I finally gave in last Friday and signed on to Apple and went thru the support steps, which at the time was very unhelpful. There is no support option for people who's battery is draining. Anyway, I went thru the support and ended up having them send me a text message with a link for their diagnostic. I ended up running the diagnostic all 3 times before giving up on the online help and scheduled an appt for the genius bar at the Apple store 40 miles away.

The next day i noticed that my battery wasn't draining anymore. I tried to burn it up running videos etc. My phone went back to normal. I'm guessing that running the diagnostic 1 or more times must've reset something on the phone. My phone has worked perfectly for the past week.

note: After the diagnostic runs i did have 2 software updates AroundMe and TouchTunes. So, it is possible that one of them was the problem, but I really think that it was running the diagnostic that fixed my phone.

I am surprised at the number of comments being made about the loss of battery life since upgrading our phones and yes we are all experiencing " battery loss" BUT what does concern that me with the advanced technology that apple have they seems to be no remedy available. NOW closing down applications surely isn't the answer in order save the battery life becuase that defeats the purpose of a smart phone, all those functins should be readily available to you for full and maximum use. Running back to charger 2 or 3 times a day is not the answer.

Hi, I just have to say my iPhone 5 is the exact same way. It just happened today actually. It drained "normally" from about 8 am this morning to around noon. Then I looked at my phone, it was at 50% then dropped drastically to 28% then just shut off and I saw the red battery bar after I plugged it in. This is so ridiculous and frustrating.

I have this exact same problem with my iPhone 5. It will be alright for about 2 hours but then it will say 50% or something and then drain to 28% in a matter of minutes and then it'll just shut off and die. This is so frustrating and it only started happening a few weeks ago. I've had an iPhone 3GS before this one and that one had much better battery life. Looks like I'll be making another trip to the apple store again for my 4th iPhone in about 1.5-2 years..
