iPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

While trying to sort out poor battery life (done 'as new' restore etc) I have just realised that I have the issue of cellular network data used while on wifi.

Despite being connected to wifi my iphone 5 is showing continual small increases in cellular network data use. I always close apps properly, have the bare number of location services on, have painstakingly set up iphone 'as new' rather than from back up. This is not happening with my iphone 4 which has ios6 loaded and is set up in an identical way. If I switch off cellular data and reset the stats then all is fine, but obviously this is far from ideal.

So, in summary, iphone 5 using cellular data when on wifi, iphone 4 doesnt! The two phones are on my desk next to me.

So many are reporting Apple supplying new replacement iPhone 5's to remidy this issue, however nobody, as far as I can see has posted to say they have had a replacement iPhone 5 and the problem is now resolved.

Could I ask if anybody has had a replacement and if the situation is now resolved. Because if that is the case, then we should all just receive replacements and avoid all of the ''trouble shooting''.

Hope some answers to my reply come theough, I'm really intrigued.. 😕

Great post by Bellatone btw

I took about ten screen shots of each.

Just a bit ago I received a call from someone on behalf of the Apple engineering team and not because of the case I filed last night but because of my forum post, so they DO read these forums and its important you all keep posting your problems. I have become a beta tester for them of sorts, by installing a special battery profile monitor application that they will review the logs of in 48 hours.

It's a little disappointing that they didn't seem to care about the other, just as important issues I'm having that affect the functionality of my phone, such as web pages not loading half of the time, not being able to set a voicemail greeting in the voicemail section of the phone, not being able to connect to the iTunes server when trying to update an app, the processor running at whatever speed it feels like, the weird tether and cellular data reports, etc...

I encourage all of you to keep posting your problems, and keep probing your phone for problems you may not even be aware of if you don't use those features normally. Keep probing, and keep reporting them. The only way they will get fixed is if we are all proactive about this.

I'll keep you updated with any new information I find out, but I doubt they will admit any fault of theirs to a customer. Apple is never to blame, and never has taken responsibility for a single problem, ever. Sure, they come out with bug fixes and patches, but they never openly admit they were premature in releasing an operating system or a product.

As for me, I didn't pay $850 for half a phone, and if at the end of my two weeks there is still no fix I'll be returning it to the store as will many, many other people I'm sure. I doubt Apple wants the iPhone 5 to be known as the product that turned Apple users into Android users.
