Try the following tips:
Do 3 full charges and discharges (basically let the iPhone run down till it switches its self off). This calibrates the battery and in doing so makes the battery life better. Then once per month do 1 complete discharge (I usually set an on going reminder on my iPhone to remind me to do it).
Go into Settings/General/About, scroll down until you see Diagnostic & Usage, touch this and on the next screen choose DON'T SEND. This stops reports and diagnostic data been sent to Apple (which is not needed and in doing so uses less battery).
Go into Settings/ scroll down until you see Privacy, on the next screen touch Location Services, on the next screen scroll down to the bottom until you see System Services, touch this:
Switch off Compass Calibration, Diagnostic & Usage, Genius For Apps, Location Based iAds, Mobile Network Search, Setting Time Zone, Traffic.
While still on this screen scroll down a little bit further and switch on Status Bar Icon (this option makes you aware of any app that is using location services, you are made aware of this by a little purple arrow to the right of the battery level). Locations services use the in built GPS that is in the iPhone. A lot of apps use GPS/location services (such as the camera app), but if you notice that the little purple arrow is constantly on (which would run the battery down a lot) then having the Switch On Status Bar Icon switched on, this setting would make you aware of the fact much earlier.
