iPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

Adding to the list, I see my battery on my iPhone 5 not nearly lasting as long as my girlfriends iphone 5.

I received both phones on early Friday and started charging them late Friday night. I have been with both phones all weekend now. When I woke up this morning, I unplugged both phones from their chargers, both phones were 100%, I used my phone probably twice as much as my girlfriend today but nothing big just mingling around apps and iTunes. It is now 6:50 something and my phone is at 30% and my girlfriends is at 95%. Haven't charged either phone all day. I notice it drains when locked noticeably much, I will lock it and come back and it's 10% lower within 30 mins. It's noticeably much and I'm annoyed but I'm gonna give it some time and cycle the battery properly and see how it does.

Adding to the complaint list. Charged the iphone to 100% in the afternoon before going out. Used the map to find find a location, got on Yelp, sent some texts and made some calls. Nothing out of the ordinary, but by midnight the battery was in the red. The phone was setup initially to conserve battery life by turning of unused features, but the battery noticably drains faster than iphone 4 w/ iOS5.

Hope apple can resolve this through a software update. Other than that, what a great phone!

Ummmm, 65% after 2 hours of radio streaming is poor performance. Thanks for the attempted at being helpful, but you don't seem to be well informed about this issue. Is this your first iPhone?

Any way, no joy at genius bar. As expected, the combination of the new phone and new iOS is too much. There just hasn't been enough time for them to sort this out yet. I was offered a new phone, but both units they had were scratched. I think this is going to be the bigger problem. People are going to go ballistic their black phones start scratching and turning silver.

Meanwhile, no meaningful solution to the battery drain problem that I have. Even their diagnostic tools and inaccurate readings about how long phone had been in use. Full restore, hurry up and wait.

Hey tough guy that radio streaming came after normal usage and browsing from 10AM to 5PM...then the radio streaming began. My battery is noticeably improved and you are a dope for trying to put people down, Apple lameboy.

i had a bad couple of battery days. so today i ran it down to 0% and then charged the phone to 100% for 4 hours on the charger. Ok so what i noticed is that, which is obv, is that when im inside on wifi battery is good. as soon as i go to Lte, my battery drains at a rate of roughly 15% for every 30 minutes of lte browsing. Which if you do the math isnt 4 hours .. so im hoping my phone is faulty

Hey guys,

I took my phone to the Genius Bar today and we came to the conclusion that my backup that I loaded from the cloud was not meshing with my new phone and/or iOS 6. A tell tale way to know if you have a software issue is to look at your usage and standby time. If they are really close to the same, but you haven't been using your phone much, then there is a faulty background process going on.

The solution is to NOT load your new iPhone from back up. Here are the steps that 100% fixed my problem.

Connect to your computer and iTunes.

Do a reset by holding the home and power button.

Right when your phone turns off, let go of the POWER only.

iTunes will then recognize and iPhone launching in recovery mode.

Restore the factory settings as prompted.

Load every thing individually from the cloud, iTunes, but don't restore from back up.

It takes a little extra work but my phone is a juggernaut now.

Hope this helps.

"... that radio streaming came after normal usage and browsing from 10AM to 5PM...then the radio streaming began."

Then you should have said that. I didn't "put you down" I made a comment about your perception of what good battery life was based upon YOUR description of what you saw, then you called me a name. You avoided my question though. It's clear you're a neophyte. No need to be sensitive about it.

Like many times in the past, we have a software problem that will be fixed with an update. Soon I hope!

Followed all the recomendations. Did the charging cycles few times. Kill all the apps. Just by searching for this issue and read few customers posts I did get from 100% to 85% in less then 10 min. No LTE. Last two days battery last 5 hrs max, with 5-10 min talk, 15-20 min web with 3G. This is a serious issue. As I do understand I am not the only one. We need a quick fix before my 10 business days return policy will expire.
